New Mega hull is bleh

First off, thank you for actually replying to us and letting us know what's up!

Thank god it's a WIP, but I can't help but wonder what is being changed besides the stretched textures. Is it getting a bit more smoothed off? At least the large plate areas, where the gold is now on the Kronos. Right now, it looks like it was contracted to Minmatar to build and they used 1,000 pieces of scrap to make the hull -_-

Also, from the Raven to the Mega to the Tempest, we could figure out the pattern :P Give us a preview of the Apoc! XD

I almost forgot to mention. On the mega hulls, the engines in the back, the whole area heats up and glows and that outer ring around the "ass" of the ship. Looks awesome, kudos on whoever had that idea.

Can't say I like the megathron soikes at the front apart from that it looks awesome, though I don't fly battleships so what do I know?

Hey guys just my thoughts on the new model: I get that in many ways it looks more modern and is part of your attempt to unify the visuals for gallente, and I think that your art design as of late has been absolutely top-notch all around. However, I just want to make one small comment on the new mega. The joint where the ships splits in half, when viewed from the top, now resembles armor in a way normally reserved for amarr ships that have so much in the design that scream "armor" juxtaposed with unarmored elements or underbellies and so many ship noses that scream "helmet." The old mega's joint was one of the best examples of an organic look for gallente, because it looked like muscle. I think that the single best thing about the mega, the fact that is was muscular, has been removed in favor of something that is les compelling and doesn't really fit with either new or old gallentean ship design and instead pilfers a distinctive visual cue from amarr.

anyway, just my 0.02 isk. besides that, love the new, more modern minnie ships, love the new dessies (they really convey scale perfectly and the new direction for the inlays on the armor/underbelly on amarrian ships showcased is truly extraordinary, etc, i LOVE the new amarrian color-schemes and the darker, cultish, more ancient look writ large. BUT, I think the new mega manages to take a flawed but memorable (in a good way!) hull, make it both less flawed but also, sadly, less memorable.

We are going over the megathron because we wanted to have all tier 2 BS being redesigned in a row.
I believe if we have the time for redesigning the ugly ones (domi, moa, all the old mining ships etc) for the next expansion, we will do just that.


If you're redesigning the Moa (or Caracal, or for that matter any Caldari cruiser) please don't give them an obvious and visible cockpit with glass and stuff like the Drake got; it doesn't look right on ships bigger than frigates IMO.

Well first of if i find a thread that is art related and i can actually answer the question or whatever i will propably reply to it, it could be a proper answer, a troll or a tease depending on my mood Cool.

Right now the kronos on duality is using the same model and textures from the megathron but with a different shader and stuff.
The Megathron model itself wont change but because the fixed texture that i can see at work does make the ship look alot better.

The model in the picture just a different shader+texture but we are thinking of getting rid the machinegun look of the ship itself and i make sure that the amazing ccp phor will do a proper job with the concepting of the new one.

No complaints here if you want to get rid of the gun look to it. Just make sure to watch him and make sure he doesn't do something stupid, like putting some odd piece sticking out the side like the Omen. If he does, please proceed to hit him in the head, followed by a prompt "no". :P

aww, i love the apoc, one of the best lookin ships. its side-view is so distinctive. if you are doing tiericide, then why not focus on the BSes that need it, like typhoon and domi?

i would love to see more symmetrical ships instead of ships with a massive engine on one side only like the machariel and mega and those annoying pointy points like the enyo i hate wonky ships!!!!! :)
some ships look like 2 year olds making ships with lego

T3's need to be versatile so no rigs are necessary ... they should not have OP dps and tank

ABC's should be T2, remove drone assist, separate HAM's and Torps range, -3 HS for droneboats

I dunno what's going on with the Mach, but the "thing" on the Mega is like a drone control tower kinda deal. It works, especially on the new model. It doesn't look like a jet engine anymore, but like an actual control center. My biggest annoyance on the Mach is the gun layout. The 7 guns and how they're place drives me up the wall. I actually sold mine because of it, I just couldn't stand it. Like the Vargur better anyway :P

Sharpen the knives by all means Twisted Just don't let a tank inspire the looks of any other ships, no matter how much world of tanks the artist plays. The minmatar DD just depresses me.

Im building spaceships for a living, like the megathron, kronos and the new caldari destroyer for this expansion. I still have many other ships in the works that unfortunately wont be in this expansion or in the next one :D

Glad to hear this bunny, your work on the megathron model and subsequent skins is amazing. Furthermore, The caldari destroyer is simply a work of art. Nice lines, nice concept, nice execution.

Now I do have a few questions. First and foremost being... Do you intend to have t2 and faction ship models more heavily differentiate from their parent ships in the future? Second, When can we expect fully remodeled drones that look like they designed to function as they do in game? Third, Can we expect to have more high slot modules such as nos/nuet, RR modules, and maybe even gang links be represented by external hull mounted models?

It is my dream that one day our drones will have two fully tracking turrets on them, just like our ships. Two should cover a 360 degree field of fire and surely it would just impact graphical performance... right?
