**Lock This Thread Please**

In 2003 i sat at my pc, in 2003 i had a friend come over to play CSS with me on his laptop, as he walked through the door he had a rather excited look on his face, which was odd as he never really got excited about anything, he turns to me and says "i found an awsum space beta game called EvE Online, mate, it's really good, exactly what we have been looking for" i nodded and pointed to my screen "ill make some tea, bring it up and we'll have a look".

Since then i have been here, through thick and thin, ever loyal, ever here, ever supporting CCP in there ideals on what EvE should be. I have always received each patch with either excitement (Incursions/Cap Ships) or resignation that CCP is in fact drunk 24/7 (FW/Mission Buff/Fuel Blocks <-- seriously wtf?) i never once UN-subbed, my friend never did, the two friends we invited to play never did. We are still here.

About 6 months ago the very same friend who, that one night, showed me the epic game that is the harshness of EvE, asked me "do you, use the forums at all?" I laughed and said "no mate, i have heard far to much, shall we say negative reports about the forums" he chortled and said "yeh, it's ten times worse now". I shrugged and kept pounding the Vindicator pirate who was stupid enough to attack three mach's in syndicate camping a gate.

I then 4 days ago decided to actually check out the forums. I finally rolled a Caldari alt and wanted some info so i had a look around. i saw this forum and thought, could be interesting, so i stopped hunting faction fitted idiots and looked here for a few days.

Disgust doesn't even begin to describe what i am feeling right now, i am no stranger to *smack talk* or *trolling* but the level of abuse/trolling on this forum is beyond reprehensible and has left me feeling some what, shaken about what EvE has become. My concern is that CCP seems unconcerned about what this. We all know there is a drop is players and activity in Null Sec, it is harder for me and my friends to get fights in a small group, we have never joined an alliance or corp, we have always had our own. I have a very real concern that CCP really doesn't care.

Or at the very least, should make the forums only viewable by paying accounts. I applaud CCP for there harsh world, i love it, but the forums are not harsh, they are without feeling and hostile. This needs to be addressed.

Anyway, i just wanted to post this, Ive never posted anywhere before so. Hope i did right. I did adhere to the custom of using an alt to post aswell

OP has a point, GD is a cesspit and doesn't reflect well on the community, I'm as guilty as most for making it so although I do try and interject a little logic and commonsense occasionally. It's good to see an outsiders view but tbh it's no worse than the majority of MMO forums. (Outsider as in someone new to the forums, not necessarily new to the game or a random browser who ended up here from elsewhere)

It's not all bad though, the New Citizens Q&A subforum is extremely well moderated and everybody tries to be helpful in there, one day GD may be the same but not anytime soon.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

That's a nice post.

And your right, the forums is the cesspit of Eve. Unfortunately this is where CCP get its ideas for new expansions from. People here don't think about what they're posting, or why, or even what the consequences might be. I do occasionally have a flame, but usually because someone has opened a thread without thought for anyone else.

It's nice to have an outsider vet's view on it.

Well, wasn't there this one sexy suggestion about binding the new bounty system to the forums or some such a while back? Whilst I don't know whether CCP ever took that suggestion seriously it sure was interesting.

Where smack-talkers and forum knights alike would be exposed to the glorious risks of bounty life should anyone else see it fit.

OP is right, the forums are that bad. In game you expect to be shot, trolled for being shot and sent home by pod express. As a community however many people here make themselves look like fat lonely virgins who were bullied at school, using these forums to strike back at people using the anonymous nature of the internet to feel good about themselves and put people down.
To be fair, most of us don't care since it is a game, we have families and lives and it doesn't touch us. But for some it just makes them want to not be involved.

I love a bit of forum pvp myself (as snotshot will likely testify) but it is done with humour and respect for my fellow players. Sadly the Eve community does have a bad reputation amongst the wider online game world, but remember people; it is actually an extremely loud minority who are actually like this. In my experience for every loudmouth, cheetoh-eating,mums basement living, virginal, asshat you meet there are a dozen decent people who you will become friends with.

Trust me, I almost know what I'm doing.

What's wrong is your perception, this forum is nothing less nothing more than exactly the show off of what this game is.

Don't like it? -don't read it

It's just like in game with it's trolls, scumbags, politics, misinformation, lobbying, trash in local etc. Now that you got started with the second best part of this game it's time to train some forum skills: how to be a bad poster.

If you ever take a close look at this forum you'll see why it's far more entertaining than graveyard camping.

I would wish that this was true, i had always heard rumors of how bad the forums appeared to be but never looked into it. I spent 4 days on a whim looking across forums for other games. I was never a forum warrior, i prefer to play rather than talk. But, that being said, this forum was the worst, out of WOW/EQII/AION etc by a very long shot

The forums represent the game. I think some people forget that

I believe my question to this would be, is that wise? Does this really reflect what we, as EvE Online gamers, are really like?

I believe the answer is no. It does not.

That, is the shame.

Yet vets are the first ones to call every high sec/np char poster "wowers" when most don't have a clue what they're talking about.

There's a major difference with other games forums, while players posting is for sure the most awful I've ever seen, dev's quality/number posting raises the standard vs other games forums above by a long shot.
But agree, take dev's posting away and 90% it's full trash. (but I admit this is funny sometimes)

The difference is, those forums are very heavily moderated. Most negative topics disappear completely, whereas here, the shame is laid bare for all to see in almost all but the most extreme cases. I think that's a good thing.
