So Got a Golem, suggestions to enhance it?

So recently i bough a golem, i gotta say the DPS is straigh outstanding, however the damage application seems quite hard to perform often having to wait for the painters cycle before firing and having some quite short range of about 60+- KMs on javelin and 40+- on Navy torps.


so the question is, is there anything relatively cheap i could do to enhance it so its more easy to apply damage to targets without having to fiddle with tps so much?


would a machariel be better and more effective than the golem for PVE ? and can a marauder be used for pvp at all properly?

Golems are effective, but take a lot of maintenance / clicking. They cost a lot of isk to make them ideal. In the current state of the game, I believe the Navy Raven is considered superior for L4 mission running.

Vargurs it seems are considered to be the current best of the Marauders for pve (Golem will be improved a bit with patch and precision skill affecting torps). Paladin is also very good as long as it is not in Minnie space. I do not know much about the Kronos.

Machariel is considered by many to be the current hands down king of PVE due to its insane speed for a BS classed ship, the damage variety, etc., making it a great blitzing ship.

For pvp you should not use ANY of them unless you are insanely rich. Marauders show up to pvpers like a huge glowy pinata because of their cost. For effectiveness I may be mistaken, but I believe the Kronos would be arguably the best one for pvp (web bonus + weap tracking speed).

Put more mud/clay on it if it's a regular Golem or something else if it's from the movie "Dogma". Btw I have ALL the marauders: Kronos, Paladin and Vargur. Too bad they forgot to make one for the Caldari.

thanks to everyone, i guess i will keep it until the upcoming update to see how it behaves and then wait for tracking computers to work with torps.


in the meantime will buy a machariel for isk making.

Use cruise missiles. Then it has about the DPS of a (plain vanilla) Raven, but loses more volley damage to defenders than the latter.

1. Yes.
2. You can use a marauder where you'd use a battleship, if you can live with the insanely low sensor strength and don't mind having over a billion worth of stuff explode if things go wrong, which they will.

Marauders weren't meant to be used in PvP. This is why all of them have active tanking bonuses, even if their faction usually has resistance bonuses (Amarr, Caldari). Also, their sensor strength is so abysmal that just using them vs. Guristas is a royal pain, and using them in PvP is just a recipe for an expensive lossmail.

There's really only "One Way" you can fit a Golem for lvl 4s, and it's the way of the Loot Piniata.

Highs:
4x Torp Launcher IIs, do whatever you want with the utility slots.

Mids:
2x RF Target Painters + 1x Meta 12+ MWD or any afterburner.
1x Shield Boost Amplifier
2x Caldari Navy Invulnerability Fields or better.
1x Pithum or Gistum A-Type Shield Booster

Lows:
4x CN BCUs

Rigs:
Some variation here works out allright

The Golem is awesome, but the reality is it's EHP is way too low and it relies too much on it's damage dealing capabilities. And since the EHP is so low you really don't want to run around pulsing your shield booster because that alone is likely to get you killed before long. You also need at the very least slots 1-5 filled with Low-Grade Crystals to tank acceptable amounts.

a) Move to Minmatar space and use 5 TPs to help mitigate the DPS loss from TP juggling.
b) Wait for the missile changes, i.e. when tracking affects missiles, however, I think that those changes have been postponed to next year?
c) Fly a Vargur.
d) Fly a MWD Mach (speed and agility make it "better" than the Vargur.)
e) Fly a Nightmare (or Paladin) in Amarr space.

/disclaimer: Golem is meh.

hate to pile on the golem hate but.....well it does damsel like a champ. About it really.

Most other missions it was lackluster to me. And I really wanted to like something other than tengu. Missions rats kite you play ammo games. I run a caldai agent, see me some gurista and even with HG talons the jams burned through too much for my liking. Wasn't even asking for jam proof (not even my tengu gets that as I get the odd jam once in a while). But for the cost and pita of full set to include slot 6, should have worked better imo.

Some advice I can give is use the usual 2 TP fit and paint the frigs for your drones to kill em faster. With the upcoming aggro shift not sure how this boat will do tbh. The mach people keep plugging....those main guns can hit a frig at least for some damage while playing recall the drone games. Torps...not the same for this.

Actually I find the Golem is a great mission boat if you fit it with T2 cruiser launchers and a rigor and flare rig.

Paper DPS is not so great but applied DPS seems much higher than the torp variant. it is the rigor and flare rigs that apply the DPS well to smaller targets.

It's biggest downfall is the price. many better ships out there for the price. But if you use it it is the rigor and flare rig preferably T2 that will make it shine. Just don't over tank it. It is way better than a CNR if fit right.

The only reason for fitting a flare rig when using guided missiles is not having enough calibration for a rigor rig.

Also, in what ways is it better than a CNR? It only has 6/7 of the paper DPS of a CNR to begin with, plus it loses 25% of its salvo damage to a defender missile, compared to 1/7 for a CNR.

Agreed. Blitz Damsel in 1m 43s Also a valid use for Rage torpedoes in PvE

The Golem, is a great boat for most pve missions in Minnie space, as angels like to cuddle.

Its range limitations are just too restrictive, the painter cycles are a pain. (Alot of micro managing)

I have been hoping for a change to Torp's for a long time, an extra 10 km would be great! In the time I waited, I used a Tengu and Vargur.

Most of the above comments are quite correct. The Golem is a great support boat in a fleet, my friends Vargur used to hit the ships that the Golem couldn't.
