Lost in Space....Transporting Strategies.

My alt was transporting in an Industrial 3 jumps from Amarr, came through the gate, aligned and warped to the next gate. In the middle of the warp, she gets an Email about insurance money being added to her account from the loss of a ship. I close the message window and I'm looking at a pod....

I have no idea what happened. How does one go about finding out that information?

Gee, I wonder why it was so easy.... Straight

I know, you need cargohold rigs to complete the honor tank

Yep, that was it. She was in route to delivering a cargo to sell.Big smile

There was no explosion or anything. Her ship actually went into warp, from my screen. I never saw or heard anything.

What do you mean why? You mean the cargo?

I talked with the other player and he was shot down by CONCORD.

EDIT : It was all rather strange. I knew I was getting too relaxed with her...Big smile Oh well, the pieces will fall and we will rise again. That was a 200m ISK lesson. I knew I should have implemented that MWD . But...you will have that...

Thanks for the insight as to find out what happened.

I still don't get why I was so delayed on my end...Maybe it was that dsync thing?

No I sayed why because your flying an untanked ship with several hundred million in items, yes the other party was concorded but he/she used. An alt to scoop the drop and payed for the gank he possible made money off of you. You probably didn't notice it do to client lag which can happen. But highest hauler ganking is common and can be extremely profitable, so be aware for next time. There are plenty of fits you can find that can tank most things I'm not sure if there are t1 fits that can tank tier 3 battle cruisers of gank battleships I may be wrong, been a while since my last highsec gank and don't do much hauling.
If you have any other questions always willing to help.

Sorry for calling you out on the km seeking out public information like that is a hobby.

Ha! Don't be sorry at all. It is no great loss. That will be made up easily. I never had any intention of her surviving a gank or any attack, for that matter. If she got popped..then she got popped.

I should have had her trained and set up with an Improved Cloak II and a MWD. He said he can get a lock in 0.4 sec. But if the hauler is using cloak, there is not a lot he can do.

If I understand the killmail correctly, he only made off with 98m from that. His ship was 75 - 80. If you add in the equipment he didn't make anything. Not that it matters. Like I said, she was way too young and way way underskilled and set up for hauling that much cargo.

Give her 2 days to get trained and she will be back in business.Blink I have already purchased her a bigger ship and apologized for being an idiot. She's pissed and not talking to me right now, but when she gets in the new boat, she'll come around.

EDIT :

Actually, I was starting to get a little burned out. This was the kick in dirty bags that I needed to get back into things. Funny thing is, people die in trading just as easily as anything else. It's a harsh world out there...I love it!

I think you can tank a T1 hauler well enough to shrug off a Tornado Gank, well I hope so anyway because that was my assumption when I put my mammoth together. I'm not entirely sure how alpha works but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable can fill you in.

I'm going on the assumption that if your EHP exceeds the alpha strike you will probably survive, probably wrong and if it is please correct me.

[Mammoth, mammoth tank]

2x Medium Shield Extender II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
EM Ward Amplifier II
Thermic Dissipation Amplifier II

Damage Control II
3x Reinforced Bulkheads II

3x Medium Core Defense Field Extender I

I tend to run with the DCII constantly running and the Invul pre-heated ready to activate as soon as I suspect trouble. With my skills this fit fields 22969 ehp (with overheat) with all resists in excess of 66% , I believe a Tornado alphas somewhere in the region of 11k.

I'd rather have a ship that has some ehp than one that is set up for max cargo capacity, I can still cram 2 GSC's in there so the cargo capacity isn't unreasonable.

Be devious, lose the cloak, fit a blaster and a neut in the highs, dual Ancillary shield boosters before that gets nerfed, a couple of resists and a shield boost amp in the mids, damage control and magnetic field stabs in the lows, & possibly some gank rigs, with the cargohold you should be able to pack a ton of cap boosters for the ASBs. Evil Battle Badger FTW

Then go baiting people, theres a vid on youtube of someone taking a Megathron out with a Badger.

I'm kidding btw but it's totally possible to PvP in a hauler.

Ha! I can dig it!

She is already training to be my Cov Ops scout. Her only mission in life...other than actually being able to make safe hauls in hi-sec...Is to pilot a Cheetah to only set up safe spots for JCC to later use in one of his exploration ventures.

Cloaking is her main defence, but I want to at least give her a chance from being one-shot again. Now that I see she can actually have a chance against it.

I have been looking into this "undock" thing and tried it, but I must be doing something wrong. I set up a spot, but no matter the ship I use...I just can't get it to auto-warp out of the station. I need to research that some more.Ugh

You mean insta undocks?

Quick N Dirty instas 101

Undock in a frigate with a mwd, or a shuttle, as you undock set your speed to full or hit the mwd if you have one fitted and don't do anything else, your ship will continue in a straight line away from the station at full speed.

When you get to a distance >150km from the station (I tend to go 250-400) open your people and places window and make a bookmark (use a name like Insta moon # as stations are based around moons), then redock.

Next time you undock, right click in space and select the safespot you have made from the menu and select warp to 0, bingo you should instantly be in warp and end up at the bookmark.

NB you can organise your bookmarks by putting them in folders, I have a folder for insta undocks and another one for safespots, the ones that display in the right click menu will come under the folder name so you just highlight the Insta undock folder and the bookmark will appear next to it, they are dependant on the solar system that you're in, it will only display bookmarks in that system.

I've got the safe spots down at 500+. I was adding them to a folder in People and Places. I would have the window already opened in the hangar, so it would be ready when I spawned outside.

I click on the spot, from people and places, but the damn ship lags around and....finally warps as usual.

No...insta-warp out of undock.

I will add them to my overview. TY so much...as always...

A MWD and a cloak isn't really going to help you, just fit a tank. That was a bad gank for the tornado to take anyway (he made no isk) and if he had seen a tank he would definately have not gone for it.

They don't actually appear on your overview (unfortunately, a much wished for addition though), generally right clicking on empty space is quicker than using the people and places screen as Eve only displays local bookmarks in the right click menu, whereas people and places displays everything which might explain the lag (much more info).

If you're not familiar with right clicking in space, just undock, zoom out using the scroll wheel on the mouse and just right click on a bit of space not occupied by the station, another ship of planets and moons, you'll get a drop down menu like you do in windows.

Bear in mind that insta undocks have to be in a straight line from the station, any that are off that line will require your ship to align first.

@ Doddy, I presume that you're more familiar with alpha & ganks than I, would you care to read my post further up in the thread with the mammoth fit and correct any assumptions that I have made?

I don't want to spreading misinformation and tbh even though I've been playing since Apocrypha I learn all sorts of stuff in this subforum.

Regarding your "I will add them to my overview."

Bookmarks are not visible in overview. I'm pretty sure it is one of those "little" things everybody would love to see implemented and it most definitely is somewhere in Features and Ideas subforum sticky.

I have People & Places window visible all the time, sorted ascending by Jump Count (or whatever that column is called) so I have bookmarks from current system at top of the list. Before undocking I open folder with insta-undocks and scroll down to make current station BM visible. This way client lag when undock grid is loading is quite minimal and I can warp to bookmark ASAP.

BTW I noticed you ask quite reasonable questions since day one I just never had a chance to comment this rare trait of yours :)

Regarding general hauling thing: cloak is ok, especially if you happen to travel through hi-low sec gates and camp just happen to be there but cargo ships are basically slow so you can get uncloaked while aligning. Sooner or later every ship gets exploded unless you never undock it. So to keep loses due to suicide ganking to minimum never haul all your stuff at once. If you really MUST move a lot of very valuable stuff it's better to use hauling services like Black Frog with collateral high enough to cover loss when gank happens. And even then I would suggest to divide your cargo into several contracts to further minimize chances of losing it all.

Its a good fit. The only real problem is getting the hardeners on/overloaded before the gankers hits as you can get no warning and lock times can be less than a second. For that reason i tend to use passive hardeners and only have to worry about getting the dc on. That does leave you in a situation where 2 well skilled tornados may gank you, but if I am moving anything worth over 200mil i just use a different char with a dst. You can fit 3 extenders on a mammoth with decent skills and i tend to use power diagnostics rather than reinforced bulkheads (not quite as much ehp but doesn't slow you down as much.
