Yes, the traffic can be noticed on the network by any IT guy who's paying attention.
I'm the IT guy where I work so that really isn't an issue for me.
I just close my office door and fire it up on the rare occasion. :)

I need to see if my laptop can play EVE, then i can play at work. As of right now my bosses don't about if I play games or not, what they care about is that i get my work done on time, after that they don't give a damn.

Tis nice having my older brothers as my bosses.

This. You have a job, why are you wanting to play a game? Do your work, excel at it, become a productive member of your company RL and society in general.

Seriously...

Whatever you do make sure youdon't install eve on your work computers, take a laptop with you.

Much less likely to get caught and even if they do catch you it's still your laptop so there isn't much they can't do, it's the same as reading a book or whatever.

This is probably best. I haven't even played the new X-COM yet and I love the original.

The traffic's not going to get noticed. If facebook's not blocked on your corporate network, or youtube, then the amount of traffic your EVE client will generate won't be a blip on the radar.

As for suggestions:

* Don't rat in nullsec, you'll lose something when a phone call comes in.
* Don't try to use a mic on voice coms... The boss will walk in right as you're expected to say something.

I guess the thing to remember is that for the most part, the guys running the network don't give a rat's ass what you're doing so long as it doesn't become an edge case scenario in terms of traffic.

Whether you're doing your job or not is a management issue, and unless the IT department has been directed to specifically look at what you're doing, they've got bigger fish to fry.

EVE will run from a USB stick or SD card. Just copy your existing install to a suitably-sized one, plug it in, and pew away.

I must agree with the line that you are there to work and not play - however

One guy I know convinced his (clueless) manager that the Eve screen was a graphical front end to a SQL monitoring program and it was necessary to run this every day to maintain the DB integration flows. The graphical front end was necessary to allow the server to maintain high-end backend operations.

It probably wouldn't be worth it anyway, as soon as I did it business would pick up and I wouldn't have that dead hour ...

I'll just use that time to go over my goals for when I get logged in at home.

I have a better idea, how about you ******* work during your work hours like normal people do, and stop wasting your employer's money and time.

When I used to work in an office I also had a bunch of morons that played games during their work hours and unloaded most of their tasks to people like me who actually do what the **** they get paid to do.

I hope you get fired for ******* around instead of working.

Inappropriate signature, CCP Phantom.

You and your sanctimonious fellows can bite me. You have no idea what my workload or job requirements are like and if you had any reading skills you'd see in the post above yours I had already decided to pass on the idea.

But I suppose if I'm not dedicating 100% of my thoughts to the job I'm still screwing off and deserve to be fired.
