CCP, please, please...learn from past mistakes and slow down

No of course they don't. You have to give this stuff to the players on the live systems to really see what the interactions are going to be like.

I've been involved in the rollout of lots of IT systems and updates. They have been tested thoroughly in testing managed by experienced test managers, with large and varied test groups but no matter what we did we never knew what was actually going to happen until the changes were released on to the full production services.
Companies can spend millions on product testing but they always seem to end up having to fix things post release.

Change is sometimes painful and unwanted by a % of your current user base but without it products and games do not survive.


Yes, I am sure that is what many, many large companies do.
I am sure that multi-national banks release new code that manages their international trading expecting unknown issues to pop up. Or some country will alter software that manages its nuclear arsenal hoping it all works out.

Now, clearly, the ramifications of CCP releasing flawed concepts is not world-wide annihilation, but within the world of the CCP customers, who knows where this many simultaneous changes where lead to.

Banks certainly do. 3 massive multi-national banks in the UK all had system failures based off the fact that their new software went live and it failcascaded resulting in no-one being able to access their money.

As for nuclear weapons.... well when the UK's first nuclear reactor was turned on by the Queen it had actually been running for about 24 hours before that. Why? Because if it blew up when they turned it on everyone responsible would be dead but the Queen wouldn't be.

You'd be surprised how many very important functions are just thrown into the real world.

People die because of these issues.

You can never fully test all of the issues out of a very complex system and in a game like EVE you're only really going to see the outcome when the players get it on the live system.

Here we're not just talking about software coding but about game concepts. Always keep in mind the term "emergent gameplay", it's a massive part of the appeal of a sandbox game like EVE. CCP just provide us with the world to play in, then they watch and tweak as required. Releasing just 1 change may have a larger impact than releasing 3 at the same time, it just depends on how players interact with them.
