Hey all, at the risk of telling people what they already know...
Here's my easiest Linux install of Eve yet:

Take an installed version of Eve from a windows comp. Copy it to somewhere on your computer.
Then:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wine1.5
wget http://winetricks.org/winetricks
chmod +x winetricks
winetricks d3dx9_36
wine eve.exe

Important: Everytime I've done this the EULA comes up with no text in it, and asks you to scroll down to the bottom, do not touch it until the text appears or it will not let you pass the EULA. The EULA will load, but takes ~ 1 min on my machine. Just.. restrain the urge to fiddle and let it ruminate for a bit ;) If nothing happens after 2 mins or so you probably have another issue.

For the record this is wine version wine-1.5.15

That's it folks.
Runs happily.

I can personally attest to it easily installing on mint 13, thats what im running, with wine 1.5, and all i did was use the offline installer, install the whole corefonts, d3dx9, vcrun2005, vcrun2008, vcrun2010, and then set the overrides, it worked 100% perfect. A lot more simple and hassle free than on any other installation ive used =)

edit: i hear in the most recent wine you dont need the overrides-makes it even easier!

Just that hint of cynicism the world needs now and then.

Quick but dirty. Ideally you need a separate wineprefix for EVE. Otherwise having multiple Windows applications may be a mess
