Oh look, a desync, how boring.

If you have been playing 2 years and never had a desync you are pretty lucky tbh. Its usually client side so you will probably get "logs show nothing". I have never been desynced 500k though, but i guess the faster your ship the more you can desync.

I've been playing since 2009 and I have never seen this happen

Now, more than ever, we need a dislike button.

So he jumped ship cause of an incredibly rare desynch, how sad....and frankly, childish.

This experience has left a bitter taste in my mouth and I will not enjoy the game for the foreseeable future because of it.

Desync or not, your Proteus would have died anyway. If you're quitting over the desync, that's just silly. If you're quitting because you thought that your Proteus is a solopwnmobile, well, enjoy Planetside.

This dude either had desync issues, or had been modifying HIS OWN CLIENT somehow.

Oxygen jumped into PF-346 from Orvolle, jumped straight to the FD gate and found this dude there, 12.5Km from the gate.

His Dramiel tackled his ship and they started shooting each other. Oxygen was orbiting him at 500, with AB turned on and the Proteus had no web. Eventually the Dramiel got reinforcements because family pictures are so much more fun.

He was definitely not at 500Km and our pilots thought he was haxx0ring somehow.

We even took our own pictures, for it was indeed weird http://i47.tinypic.com/2r3yz9g.jpg

Also, he lost his Proteus NOT to a Dramiel, but to a Dramiel, a Cynabal, a Stabber, a Stiletto and a Taranis.

http://www.iberians.org/kb/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=21701

He DID seem to cry a hell of a lot in Local, but the 2.6 billions he dropped were well worth putting him out of his misery.

Also, API verified: http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/killmail.php?id=17761843

I would like him to petition: then MAYBE we'll know if he was indeed trying to cheat. Other than that, the kill is pretty standard and he will of course not get refunded.

That picture is microscopic and from the looks of it the dram is not 500m away from the proteus.

Why would you make it so small, unless you are hiding something?

lol bad post.

He quit because he had no chance to fight back. He also probably was not expecting to be pointed at 500kms away.

Bit of a drastric reaction. I would wait until after your petition/bug report where you can submit your screenshot. You should get all returned to you. A similar thing recently happened to my husband and his golem and all ship equipment was returned to him. Cool

It doesn't offend me but certainly lessens the respect I have for you as a fairly unknown individual, but thankfully for you if you ever do come back and we cross paths ever again I'll likely not remeber this thread or you at all :P

There is an article on desync bugs and how to detect them.

Synchronous RTS Engines and a Tale of Desyncs

Tl:dr version:

Desyncs happen when the clients have a different gamestate.
Desyncs are detected by hashing the gamestate on the clients and then comparing them. If they don't match then you have a desync.
Desync bugs are usually caused by programming error, not connection issues.
---
Note that unlike RTS games Eve Online has a central server from which the client could restore the gamestate.
Unfourtunately, Eve Online does not have this functionality.

It's really crappy of CCP not to reimburse that.

Unfortunately it's in line with my experience with their reimbursement policy. They don't reimburse client side errors, even if it's due to coding errors that are their fault.

MWO is a great game. Go for it.

it'd be silly to reimburse that because the desync isn't why he died

Oh sorry about that (you should keep reporting with shots imho) but you are leaving EVE because of this? sounds like a childish behavior tbh.

This game is more than just win/loss one engage.
