Goons ganking Freighters, should I worry?

Not sure I follow. You saying that you need to focus on building stuff while piloting? I don't see how piloting gets in the way. You really only need to manually pilot through a few systems - Uedama, Jita, Perimeter and Niarja. Best thing you can do is just not haul a lot of value. If you keep under 800M total value, you may be just fine. I wouldn't worry too much. At some point, you will get ganked.

Although the profit line seems to be about 650 mil right now you are still quit safe carrying under 1 bil in cargo. It is not that you will not be a profitable target, but there are still far to many players running through the pipes on auto pilot with 2-3 bil worth of stuff in their hold.
The gankers who gank for profit will pick the most profitable target. No matter if it is on auto pilot or manually piloted, if they choose you, you will die. If you keep your cargo value down you have nothing to worry about, unless you are the only target. If you fly smart you will not get targeted.

The few gankers who gank freighters just for luls with no intention of making a profit will not last long. If a freighter gank costs a minimum of 650 mil, how many ganks will they pull off before their funds run dry? Ganking for profit requires a lot of additional work. neutral indies to haul the loot away. salvage ships, cargo scanning scouts, etc. Ganking for luls is a spur of the moment thing and is very common against miners and T1 indies, but very rare against freighters.

If you're flying with less then 1B isk in value you'll be fine. There are several threads relating to the freighter ganking so you can search and get the info from those.

Basically it comes down to ((cargo value / drop chance) - gank cost). it costs roughly 1B to gank a freighter so as long as you're under the profit margin of ganking you'll be fine.

To figure out the ganking profit margin these days just look up eve-kill and look at what other freighters have been getting ganked (and remove obvious lul kills, wardecs, etc).
