Actually I think you are a little mistaken there. That wasn't a game trailer format. That was more along the lines of an investment presentation. I think the blue/green screen that he stands in front of most of the presentation gives that away. It's common in business, being that or in front of a whiteboard or projector.

I'm talking about the video bottom right that says 'full cinematic trailer' next to it, which in itself is misleading.

Eve can only be killed by Eve itself (CCP & nerd infested playerbase) . Simple truth :-D

I started playing Eve because I thought it might be like Privateer/Freelancer. I will play this game if it ever sees the light of day (or the vacuum of space?), but It will not make me unsub from Eve.

It also has no chance to kill Eve, as Eve has a 10 year head start on development and content.

I believe that the vision that is within Chris Robets' head would indeed be an EvE killer.

I also believe that what actually gets crapped out onto the market once they run out of money and have to rush to meet their deadlines will fall very, very short of that mark.

copypasted from the other "omg eve killer" thread:

I don't see much heat coming from Star Citizen. It's a fighter game. It puts you in Luke Skywalker's seat, blasting other relatively-small things while flying around the big ones that function as scenery. Cool, but not Eve. Eve puts you in Darth Vader's position, commanding a mammoth vessel while the little flies buzz around it and explode.

In perspective, that fighter thing in the previews was, as best as I can tell, roughly the size of shuttles in eve.

(edit: ok, technically vader didn't captain the star destroyers...but he sure as hell told the captains what to do...)

I know this 'killer' language isn't Chris Roberts' initiative, but every time I see 'X is a Y Killer' I see X quietly disappearing within 6 months.

It's great marketing for Y, though.

It sounds like one of the only things Starship Citizen will have in common with EVE is spaceship combat. Otherwise, it looks like it'll be its own thing, and it should be considered on its own terms.

Crowd Sourcing to pay for it? Sounds like it could turn into quite a scam. "Here, give me money to make this game for you" Wait, what? That means you don't have to cover financing afterwards and we pay for the game to be made. What? Does this mean we get stock and earn as you earn?

Whatever. I wouldn't invest without some serious legal documentation.

The video looks alright, but the website sucks. My brother could draft up a better one inside of 5 minutes. If that's any indication of the in-game UI, I'm not going to be even remotely impressed.

Unlike CCP they'll be able to make a full on sci-fi sim with spaceships because they don't have a narrowminded playerbase that rages whenever they do something different.

If EVE's players don't let it expand it'll stay a niche game, whereas Star Citizen will win.

Back when I was a kid, if you wanted to raise capital for a business you sold shares on Wall Street. Apparently things like "accountability" fell out of favor, though, so now everyone just begs on Kickstarter for money. Which is quite a scam generator, to be sure. How many projects per day on that site get to a quarter million dollars or more and then just abruptly get cancelled? A lot of off-shore banks must be happy, though.

I have actually been following this one for awhile now. The concept and idea is amazing. I've had this same idea for a space universe for about 5 years now. I don't have the time or the skills to put it together. Not to mention a way to actually get the money. I will most likely play eve for the next couple of years until Star Citizen comes out.

Growing up with the Wing Commander series and Privateer, I always had the utmost respect for Mr. Roberts, but I think he lacks vision... sure, the concept sounds nice, but I highly doubt it will be anything more then then a WC/Privateer/Freelancer hybrid.

EVE is a almost completly palyer driven game... economics, politics, etc. and I don't think Robert's can (or does want to) pull something like that off...

If you watch the hour long video from the GDC, you'll see that's exactly what he wants to pull off. Even travel routes will be named by the player who discovers and maps them.

The only thing he's leaving behind are the enormous alliances and fleet battles, because he, wisely, sees they do more harm than good to a game.

StarCitizen is very promised game, meny features are awesome, like arcade style, cocpits, big opened hangars, halls - ships, interactive things etc.
EvE with these things would be awesome, but EvE got a bit difirent style, and is designed to offer specific view on space simulator.

SpaceCitizen is more arcade and interactive, while EvE is more strategy, In SpaceCitizen you control your ships, you feel like real pilot, in EvE you are more ship commander who sent comands to it... Somtime i dont feel like pilot in EvE i feels more than ship even this sound stupid .... or somone who sent command to it how to fly but with restricted freedom like fly to axis y or x...

EvE isn't game, its style of living.

That the thing... Roberts does simulations... atleast he used to.

For me, one of the great things about EVE is that every ship is esentially useable, even giant caps... but that only works because it is NO simulation... so, I dunno. We'll see...

All those promises and goals stated on that website for Star Citizen reminded me how I felt 11 years ago when I first found out about EVE.

Things change, reality bites and developers try the limits only to be bounced back hard on their backsides.

I won't deny that I'm tempted to fund that game, I most likely will do so in fact. But at the same time I'm very, very well aware of the fact that the promised product will not be the product that'll be delivered (if it even is delivered at all).

EVE hasn't achieved all the goals they promised, we still haven't seen stuff that was supposed to be in at launch day.

Where am I going with this? Basically, just don't get your hopes up too much.

The BEST thing about Star Citizen is the ability to mod the game.

You can make your own ships! It will come with a construction set. You can submit your ship design, and the ship will appear at different vendors in the game. You get a cut whenever someone buys a ship.

So not an industry/market system like Eve, but better in some ways, as you can create/craft stuff. The desire to see your creations in-game will be like coke.

Any colour you like.

You can't judge a game by its trailers...look at SWTOR, or hell, even look at EVE.
