I am asking this because I have had " nice farm you have there, ssssshame if something to happen to it" 3 times over the course of 2 nights in an area fully lit by torches AND jack-o-lanterns, I've also had this happen to me 5 times underground where they would spawn BEHIND me in a fully lit area or nearby and just out of sight with full knowledge I was there. no spawner nearby either. version 1.8 and on hard mode

someone please tell me how the heck MOBs especially creepers are spawning or teleporting into fully lit areas? it downright annoying to have to rebuild my farm especially when they destroy blocks or very hard to replace farms (pumpkins, melons)

Mobs can spawn on any block which is more than 7 blocks away from a torch (8 for a furnace, IIRC). Once spawned, light does nothing to repel mobs.

If you want to keep mobs out of your pumpkin patch, then you must guarantee that all blocks in the patch are sufficiently lit, and then surround the entire patch with high enough walls that mobs can't jump over/onto.
