I remember when downtime lasted an hour, patches took a few days and we didn't complain about it (as much).

..and some daily downtime got suddenly extended by several hours, with poor notification. And server would just randomly completely die, sometimes even rollback, if a 'fleet' of 15 people jumped into a system and caused a node crash. Plus we had no skill queue back then so it was a 100% "make sure to set a multi-day single skill before patches" (and maybe downtime).

Yes, CCP has improved on that, alot, and we should remember and appreciate that. That's part of why I so easily am chill right now. But the only area where CCP have gotten worse.. is their communication with customers, and their 'transparency' promised after T20 (later named to be through CSM) has come NDA's, secret internal orders, and enforced gameplay rather than letting players chose their sandbox.

The world is not black and white. CCP does both good and bad stuff. The downtime and patching at CCP is actually one of their stronger sides.

I am very sorry guys. I'm guilty of that. Today is my deadline so I have to finish an article. Guess EVE won't be online until I finish it.

CCP:

How about a realistic estimate on when your production server will be producing again?

Sure would beat these tickler estimates that continually waste our time and ruin our already low confidence in your server management abilities.

Wouldnt worry about it, the game will be dead in 6 weeks and abandoned in 3 months.

That is your personal opinion, which yes you are entitled to...

but please stop stating it as fact. you're probably wrong.

I remember the same thing being said about counterstrike, day of defeat and many other games during their beta.

There is a huge difference between DUST and these games, and it is a factor that will likely keep people comming back.
Persistance.

The world is not just a series of battles that have no effect other than to modify your personal Kill/Death ratio.
You'd be surprised how many people will forgive problematic gameplay simply because their actions can have a lasting effect on the game world.

What do you mean, probably wont? Most people play fps for completely different reasons that people play eve. I know, because i play fps too.

Cosmetic persistence in an fps isnt going to counter already dated graphics, buggy gameplay, lack of competent support etc.

I am without a single doubt dust 316 will never reach close to its projected take-up, and the numbers they do get will drop off within 8 weeks to the point where supporting the title will be impossible.

That is my prediction. Given the life cycle and player count of all but the titans of fps i dont think this is too pessimistic.

Hey Misanth - long time no see (on the forums).

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.
