Simple Question.

I still like armor because as said it gives you some time to ponder what to do next, as with shields it's immediately 'all hands on deck, man your battle stations!'

Tough I found some love for shield tanking over time.

I guess it all depends what you fly and how your skills are.

Has anyone legitimately hull tanked?

I've seen a build posted for it, but it's stupidly expensive, and if you don't gauge your prey well it can cost you a damn expensive ship and fittings. On the other hand, the way its use was described was hilarious.

*sigh*

Guess it's up to me to make a "srs post."

They both have their pros and cons.

Shields:
- do not slow down the ship
- use mid-slots and free up low-slots allowing weapon, tracking, and speed mods to be fitted
- have very fast active repair mods, which are excellent for "burst" tanks (see: soaking up large amounts of damage for a short period of time).
- regenerate with time

Armor:
- has a more even resistance profile
- can have its resistances beefed up far more easily than shields
- has the potential to have more "raw" HP
- is less capacitor intensive (you can fit for an entirely "power free" setup).

The reason people poo-poo on armor right now is because "speed" is FOTM and one of the two armor tanking races has weapons that are ill conceived for slow, bulky ships.

Depends on what I'm flying and also what wormhole I'm pilfering Pirate

Other than that Corpse Tank>all others

Orca can hulltank effectively I believe, got to use all that structure for something Lol

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

As lots of people have probably said, it really depends- there is no 'best' tank type. It all depends on what you are doing, what you are flying and what the other guy(s) is/are flying.

That being said, I love armor tanked ships. The high EHP and high resist profile combined with the low signature, MmmmmmmmMMMMM! Very good.

Sheilds are awsome, reason I am Caldari so sheilds go with race, tried Armour tanking did not like it much even though I have the skills to do it.

Its all down to personal opinion and what your skills are.

2 factors

1st.... what are u flying will determine what u use
2nd....... what is your better skill to apply to your tanking

I armor tank, but on my alt I shield tank. And I must say I like shield tanking better. And active armor tanking kind of sucks for the Amarr since your guns use cap, your armor repper uses cap. bleh

Shields or Armor active tank.

I'm curious what people think is better, rules are simple.

Your choice: armor or shield

and then your reason.

I think shield tank is always better. Shields have no mass and therefore can be regenerated like new after a fight. Armor has mass so it then would limit your mobility and acceleration. Plus the time to replace damaged armor after a fight would be significant.

Armor tanking is a dumb idea and reeks of diversity for its own sake.

shield repair is also free just from docking, you have to pay tons of isk just to repair your armor if you dont have a rep handy.

omg!

it is the purpose of the fit.

If PVE - buffer shield passive works always.

If PVP - buffer DC, resist, plated - works best as all around setup.

If gang warfare, REMOTE rep and resists, way to go.

Active local tanking is the thing of the past. Or of the passed out perman tank mackinhawk carebears.

This post sums up why the 'best' work with DCM inc.

WARP DRIVE makes eve boring

really - add warping align time 300% on gun aggression and eve becomes great again

yes, that freighter that was caught on the gate. He logoffski circa 2009 and logged back in 15% in structure.

Wow, no mention of implants?

A full slave set goes a long way to making armor buffer fits ungodly powerful. Crystals help with an active shield fit, but even with asb active tanking rarely works. So if you have the skills and isk, armor can benefit more.

Now if we could just get some armor tanked ships that favor missiles instead of rockets.

Concerning only those ships, that can effectively be both armor- and shield tanked (like Hurricanes for example) I'd say I prefer armor, because it leaves you with precious med slots for nasty stuff like dual webs, ECM, TD, etc....

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

From the logi pilot perspective:

I have a slight bias towards armor tanking, because:
1) I get time to put my reps on target ... the draining shields act like a countdown.
2) When the the enemies switch targets, the shield will rep itself up a bit.
- the downside is, the reps only take place at the end of the cycle. So, during roughly 4 seconds absolutely nothing happens in terms of repping.

Shield RR on the other hand gives reps right at the beginning of the cycle. ... and a little bit of armor damage is no big issue. When you have to shield rep smaller ships with limited shield HP, you should have some armor maintenance drones in fleet imho.

Jill.
