Hello all. Just got done training all racial drone skills to V and wondering was all that really worth it!? 19 plus days apiece. Now thinking of training Autocannon Specialization to V. Am I a tool or just a complete tool? Seriously though, is it worth it? Thoughts?

Do you use them regularly on the ships you fly?

If yes, then probably.

Yeah, I love the hurricane especially. Drones wasnt a hard choice. I fly the Pilgrim, Ishkur, Curse, Rattlesnake, etc. often enough to justify the training.

I love drones and I do have nice skills for them, but still I find it unjustified to train all four racial drone skills to V.

Specially Amarr ones, TBH.

I can not justify training for nearly 3 weeks for a 2% increase.

Not when there's so much else to train in other areas which gives more benefits in a shorter time.

But ymmv. If you got nothing else to train for, or if you just totally want to max out on your current playstyle, go for it.

It drives me nuts that two of my friends have characters with so many skill points, that they don't care what they train next, and they have many holes in their skills-sets as a result.

Example: One of them is finishing off electronics, not the skill but the category (15+ days per skill) when they have level 1-3 in so many other skills that would make for a more rounded character. Get them to 4 first! Argh!

No...how I see it, 3 weeks is 3/4 a plex's game time...with prices now that's a around 400 mil isk worth of game time...just buy/LP exchange 3% implants. Only if you use one sized weapon system and nothing else to train; example just fly rifters so max small auto spec.. My three accounts with three combat toons training over 4-5 years, not one has a weapon specialization to five nor a drone spec to five..simply not worth the time.

only if there isn't a bunch of useful skills with shorter training time you could train instead.

Gallente and minmatar fair enough, but did you really train amarr.caldari spec 5?What?

thank god its not just me...these threads often make me wonder if I am a complete jackass...or just a regular jackass. Based on this feedback, I am happy to report that I think I am just a bog standard, level 4 jackass.

I would say that eventually it is worth it. There comes a time when a level 5 skill is basically all that you need to make your ship completely maxed out, and it is fun to fly a completly maxed out AC tempest or Mach.

A complete shed of tools :P
But seriously, make sure there isn't a better way to spend your training time first before training spec skills to V.

When I was heavy focused on Frigate / Assault Frigate PvP I trained Small Auto-cannon Spec 5. My thought behind this was I wanted to be at peak performance. So many times that little extra damage could be the deciding point in a battle. Once putting my focus to Cruiser, and their advanced counterparts, I carried that philosophy to Medium Auto-cannons and Medium Artillery. The latter mainly for my Huggin / Rapier that I soloed in often. I knew those would carry over to the Battlecruisers, so I felt it was a doubly wise investment. Of course I also trained all the Gunnery Support Skills to 5, including AWU 5.

Once at the Battleship level I decided the time investment was no longer worth it, as I had begun to cross-train into other races. Again I trained Medium Blaster Spec. to 5 to aid with both Cruiser and Battlecruiser proficiency.

At this point I have all Turret Specs at 4 or above.

tl;dr

My basic thought pattern was, fly it to the best of it's ability. Those little percentages here and there add up.

It should be the LAST skill to train that affects those cannons, like surgical strike, trajectory analysis, motion prediction, controlled bursts...

I stopped at 4 only cause I have so much else to train. It will be one of those in the long term or one I tag on the end of another skill to pad out over 24 hours.

As some have mentioned, if you fly with AC's a lot, it should be on your list, but frankly, as others have said, it should be down the list behind other skills you may want to look into first. At the end of the day, it's your call, but I'd see if there are faster, more important trains first.

The increase in DPS is 1.8519%. I'd buy an implant instead.

Thanks for all your replies. I completed medium Autocannon to V and decided to invest some time into my weaker Leadership skills. Maybe get off my a$# and get Command ships to V......
