why does login take up to two minutes nowadays?

yeah...thats the question.

Is it just me, my wife and _some_ members of my corp that want to login and it takes up to two minutes (which is ages in pvp - when you call|wake the members via whatsapp and all other available channels).

We lost a proteus today, because our logistics were not able to login or watched a progressbar gaining 100%.

Blame your ISP.
Takes me all of 40 seconds to go from desktop to launcher, to main screen, to character selection to being inside station or warping to pos.

also my ping is 22 ms to the eve servers ...that is not the problem.

1. clear your cache.
2. get a better isp

Well, if you do have anything else between you and your isp, it could be blamed.

Otherwise, 1 and 2.

It's for once, not CCP guilty. this time.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

Changing ISP is not that easy...contracts and such - and as I already said..the connection is pretty good..
But I already ogle on that 150MBit-line that our cableprovider offers...

But cache..yeah - that sounds good..I'll clear it and tell my corpmates to do so. Thanks for that hint!

I can confirm this. I keep my PC in pristine condition. Running a 256mb Crucial M4, and while my 6mbit DSL might be a little thin, it's more than enough for EVE considering my latency to the server is lower than 80.

Clearing the cache helps, but after a few startups it still takes ages to get EVE going. If I minimize right after hitting "Connect" the game just sits in a "Not Responding" state for almost two minutes.

If it takes longer to verify the cached files than to download them fresh, why not just get rid of the stupid system entirely? Or at least add an auto-clear feature to the client shutdown process.

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

As someone who has cleared his cache, and constantly logs in and out of 2 clients (usually running 2 at once) to update orders on two accounts, it gets very unresponsive during login and such.

yeah - I cleared my cache too. and one might think it is slightly faster. But there is something during the "authenticating" phase that takes ages.

Also the "preparing data" phase takes its time.
