Balance changes are probably the toughest you can make in a game. I prefer they take it slow and make sure it all works.

4 destroyers and a single mining ship.
I think dozens is an exaggeration.

Since you haven't even used any of the existing content, I don't understand why you're demanding more new content.

It's also worth remembering, when you complain about the content in EVE Online being boring, that you are the content. Welcome to the sandbox Big smile

Does that mean you all should be paying your subscriptions fees to me?

False. Apocrypha had a large amount of new content and was incredibly fun and to this point remains the best expansion in the game during the time that I have played.

I agree. And they managed to do it with a much smaller team than they have now.

Which is why I get confused when people try and defend these micro expansions that we are getting nowadays as being great.

Are you trying to suggest you're some kind of RMT supporter? Only CCP gets paid money.

Yeah, but you can't get tattoos of those. So the point is moot.

The point was that tattoos were one of the things that CCP at Fanfest said they would Deliver(tm) this year.

This would be worth it if nothing else. But I'm not getting my hopes up, they're pretty low.

Wasn't CCPs big goal to run a Destroy, Harvest, Create cycle...... we just had destroy.... so now the harvest one is a single frigate which 95% of players are either well beyond using or not interested in. Seems that apart from some balancing and 5 ships this isnt an expansion its just a small patch.

Dont get me wrong I love new content and balancing but this is kind of not really worth looking forward to.

Yes Nicolo where did you hear this horseshit? The Oggeror's been ~on the way~ for years now, we don't even know what it looks like yet and CCP's been completely silent since fanfest. The website clearly says only five ships are coming out, none of which are an Oggeror.

The upcoming Retribution expansion seems pretty light on features. I mean I do understand the need to fix the difficult to understand aggression systems, and to make bounty hunting a viable profession. The updated AI should be nice.

But apart from a couple new ships. Is this really it? Or is there another announcement forthcoming?

I recall it being mentioned at fanfest that we would be getting avatar tattoos this year, but that seems to have been conveniently hushed up.

It seems the days of expansions like Apocrypha and Trinity are long behind us, never to return. Which is a shame. Expansions in EVE have become far less exciting than they used to be. And they certainly don't have the wow factor that expansions like Apocrapha did.

I miss the days when expansions brought a renewed sense of wonder to EVE.

Apocrypha & Trinity were the exception, not the norm.

If Retribution actually does usher in a working bounty system, it'll be worth it for that alone. That is to say, it'll be an expansion that actually adds a new thing to do. (Not to mention all the positive long term effects on hi-sec of having a working player-based retribution system)

New ships? Well that's kind of down to definitions: CCP have been reworking ("tierciding") the existing ship range, improving and changing some of them so much that they might as well be new ships. I'm happier for them to do that than to just introduce "new shiny" and leave half the existing ship range on the scrap-heap. We have literally hundreds of ships already. Most people have never flown most of them because half of them weren't worth doing anything with except reprocessing. 2011 Hawk? LOL! 2012 Hawk? WTFBBQ! Have you flown a Hawk yet?

In short: CCP are doing what we spent the last 5 years yelling at them to do: focus on fixing existing content over new. They add a little bit of new stuff each time, and spend 4 or 5 times more effort on improving and upgrading what we already have. I don't know if you've noticed, but EVE plays a LOT better than it did a year or two ago. I mean a really lot. A whole bunch of "minor" stuff that used to work in a weird way, or unpredictably, or simply not at all, now just works.

I have also been hankering after some big new Apocrypha-style gameplay expansion, but in the meanwhile, I can't really bring myself to complain when so much work has been put into polish and iteration.

17 new frigates
16 new cruisers
4 new destroyers

Yes, there are some individual cases where the new resembles the old, but most of the "rebalanced" T1 small ships in Retribution are dramatically different from the current versions, even though the names and hull graphics remain.

Viable T1 logis, EW ships and overall stronger small ships make Retribution one of the BIGGEST expansions content-wise. This expansion changes the scenery on a battlefield.

Furthermore, changes to Crimewatch affect the main gameplay, combat, in many ways. Again, new tactics, different fights.

Before Crucible, the last three expansions were a complete joke:

Tyrannis: LOL PI, no other real feature. Wait 18 months for anything.

Incursions: Highsec isk faucet that allowed you to make a bit too much profit for the safety of highsec. Reskinned Sansha Ships. LOLOLOL 18 Months.

Incarna: Awful crappy WiS work after years of wait, Greed is Good, $1000 Pants, Monoclegeddon, etc. Microtransaction crap that should stay out of a P2P game.

You want a real expansion Apocrypha was a major expansion that totally changed the game.

EVE is getting the fixes that should have been done years ago.

CCP has largely neglected EVE for a good while, using players as a cash cow to fund their lulzworthy pet projects and putting what I see as the bare minimum effort in maintaining the health of the game.

I have long been in favour of less shiny new content and more emphasis fixing what we already have.

So I am happy with the new expansion.

I hope.
