Do the europeans even make games? Besides CCP.

They should be welcoming booth girls then to their expos, since they have the highest chance of sleeping with them.

It almost seems that football helps create good games, but soccer only makes you dumber towards games. Am I the only one seeing this?

Target audiences are fickle.

I expect French waiters to be rude, and if not, I question the quality of the restaurant.

I expect games companies dealing with archetypal character-based games to present their wares accordingly.

If the ladies are not wearing clothes that mirror the games, then it deserves scrutiny.

Well, the UK has the bulk of European game developers by output, with France on a distant second place, then some small amonts in Sweden, Germany and Denmark, and traces in Netherlands, Ukraine, Norway, Romania and Finland.
Only a few work on AAA games though.

Let's see...

I suppose you are familiar with Lionhead Studios ("Black and White", Fable"), that's an UK games studio (or, well, was, as it's been bought by Microsoft).

Ever heard of the games called "Crisis" and "Far Cry", or that thing called "CryEngine" ?
Crytek's headquarters are in Frankfurt, Germany, and it's been founded by three Turkish-descent German brothers.

You probably didn't hear much of "Traveller’s Tales" (another UK company), they make most of those "LEGO something" games, and a few of those movie spin-off games (meh).

How about "Rockstar North" (formerly known as DMA Design Ltd), with all those GTA games (and before, the Lemmings series) ? That's a UK game studio (in Scotland, to be more precise).

And let's not forget the company that started the whole scandal in the OP's article, Virgin Interactive, a developer/publisher (formerly Virgin Games Ltd.), also an UK based one. It's mostly known for its publishing part, not so much the development part.

Hey, how about all those "Battlefield" games, made by an EA-purchased company called "Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment" (a.k.a. "DICE") ?
That's a Swedish company (or, was, until it got bought by EA).

How about "The Secret World" (MMO), "Anarchy Online" (MMO) and "Age of Conan" (MMO), alongside "The Longest Journey" (classic adventure) ?
That's all Funcom, a Norwegian game company.

Or maybe the "Prince of Persia" and "Assassin's Creed" series ?
That's all Ubisoft, a French game company.

Or "Heavy Rain", or "Omikron : The Nomad Soul" ? That's Quantic Dream, also from France.

...

And the list can go on.
Yeah, Europe makes quite a few of the games a lot of people think are USA-made :)

...

P.S. That being said, I'm sounding off with a resounding "meh" on the whole scantily clad booth babes issue.

If the game studios (or, more precisely, the game publishers) can't set their own limits for what constitutes the limit of decency, there isn't really much OF VALUE lost by simply forbidding them from doing it altogether.
Sure, personally I wouldn't mind if they let them put completely nude booth babes in transparent jello-filled basins wrestling and kissing each-other, but there's SOME line you have to eventually draw between a peep show and a games expo.
Or, you know, rename the expo to "Live erotic show sponsored by game studios".

What purpose do booth babes serve anyway ? Give the male visitor some eye candy ? If you want to see half-naked ladies, that's what night clubs are for, go there. You don't even really have to pay for the HALF-naked part. And at least they know what they're doing, and are paid accordingly.
An overload of in-various-states-of-undress booth babes sounds to me like an overly elaborate pre-rendered cutscene that has nothing in common with the way the game actually looks, to put up as advertising for your game, instead of letting in-game footage to the forefront... at least a bit misleading, if nothing else. And I don't really care much for that either.

Try to stay on-topic-- we're talking about Euros suddenly losing their minds and banning booth girls! WTH? Europe has always been the world leader at understanding that sex is natural, healthy, and lots of fun. What's up with this suddenly acting like a bunch of hater American church ladies? Civilization's in decline, I tell you.

I can guarantee everyone reading this that the 50,000 attendees were not uncomfortable with the booth babes in the slightest bit.

List of european studios.

Your list needs mention of CD Projekt RED, a polish studio which brought us The Witcher series.

Besides being quite refreshing in gameplay (good story and in game choices actually had consequences later on), it was famous for being a "state gift" from the polish to the american president during a state visit as well as for its.... liberal approach on intimacy; so much, in fact, that it was censored for the american audience (though nothing that a patch couldn´t take care of).

It not like in Europe we by much American stuff either. Film/TV, though that might just be the UK. Software, and some music. Most of the non-food suff we buy is made in Asia. The fact neither of us seam to make much for export may go some way to explain our current predicament...

^ I am currently waiting for my tasty line of salted fiber to be a big hit in europe. Hopefully that will spark a trading war.

Speaking of Asia, I was always use to japan being the real creator of video games. Luckily I don't play any of those europe ones listed, only X3 and this game. I think come form europe, I have tried.
