blobs ftl.

and on a more serious note, CCP needs to remove how conversations between me and people on my contacts list work. the idea of people being able to force me to open a conversation with them, no matter what my standings towards them are, results in anger filling my train of thought and I find myself almost wiping out my list of several dozen contacts(most of which are friends) completely clean.

So, the miner hating, mission runner hating, hi-sec hating, carebear hating, tough guy pvpers are reduced to spamming to win a fight they are not tough enough win by actual pvp.

Quite amusing really.

When you set your client to block incoming conversation requests, the server only knows about this by knocking at your door to see if you are set to accept incoming convo requests. If the block-flag is set, the server sends a reject back to the client requesting the convo. You as the intended recipient should not even see a Chat GUI popup at this point in time. That is how it should work. Can anyone confirm if this is how it is or not ?

Given the above condition, the server takes a quick peek at your client settings for each and every convo request, so in essence, your incoming IP traffic is increased. Your client will not suffer as much compared to if the GUI actually popped-up for each inbound request. If the GUI does pop-up, that will no doubt cause a much heavier load on your client.

I would suggest to the CCP DEV to set a simple flag for the client. You should be able to set this on or off. Almost the same as setting the block characters setting, but not quite. Here's the logic flow of it :-

IF ClientA is in a fleet, prevent any outgoingchat requests from ClientA if any or all of the following conditions are true :-

- intended recipient is not in your Fleet .
- intended recipient is not in your Corp.
- intended recipient is not in your Alliance.
- intended recipient is at war with you.
- CCP should give everyone the OPTION of disabling LOCAL whenever the Client wishes. Flooding local with traffic is also quite a problem.

Other than that, set your CSPA charges to 100 Million ISK to make them pay if they want to play the ingame DoS game by mail-flooding you if they are unable to chatflood you. If CSPA cannot be set to 100 Million, then CCP should probably make the change to allow this.

Just a thought.

Anyone else think it is funny that OP seems butthurt over the fact that he can just tick the auto reject invitations and it has eluded him so far? Please tell me you are using a Mac because then it would all make sense why you are crying about this.

I can't do your reading for you, sorry. If you're trying to make yourself look smugly superior you're going to have to actually use more than two neurons and come up with an actual response.

Sarcasm nonwithstanding, what exactly are you doing in this thread?
You clearly misread my original post, so now you're just trying to distract from that fact in an attempt to keep yourself from looking foolish.

Are you really justifying a DDoS as a legitimate gameplay tactic? That's what this comes down to.

Yeah I know Goons do it a lot. We do it a lot. That doesn't make it right. It needs to stop.

I am not justifying anything. I am asking you why it is so difficult for you to tick that auto reject in the settings menu and you avoid the question by saying that I am intellectually inferior to you. Lol

And whiny posts like yours attracts me like blood and guts in the water attracts sharks.

You are going to have to prove that convo spamming actually crashes a client. I've been convo spammed by somewhere in the ball park of 50 people and once I setup autoreject it was smooth sailing. Didn't get any lag from tons of convo requests, just the normal UI jitters it always gets.

If it were to be the case then it would be an exploit same as 500 people dropping 500 cans to lag out a system is an exploit.

But I have a feeling someone did something dumb and is blaming it on convo spam or a client crash. I know I blame my dumb mistakes on lag all the time.

I didn't avoid the question. It was already answered before you ever posted here. In the very first post. Ticking the auto-reject does not prevent the client from receiving the request, it only removes the GUI and automatically rejects the request. There's still traffic generated which is what causes the lag.

If your internet is so bad that you get disconnected from mere requests (that still gets denied) to the client, you need to throw out that modem and come join us in the modern era of technology.

This is kind of presumptuous, given that we're not exactly sure of the nature of the problem (client or network lag). I can't speak to any setups either, seeing as this has in fact never happened to me.
