As the title says, when EVE is open I cannot use certain keys.

I cannot use; ESC, F keys, Tab, CTRL, ALT.

I have checked that all the keys are working outside of EVE and that they are responding correctly otherwise.

Please help as these keys are probably THE most important used keys in the game!!!!

EDIT: Also I can't use Enter/ Return....

(I have also re installed the client and cleared caches, settings and logs)

This may not work (I'm not at home to test), but it used to back at the dawn of the computer age when we used terminals:

CTRL [

i.e. control key and left bracket

EDIT: For what it is worth, Default Keyboard Controls

EDIT: Photoshop is known to cause this problem, as are other applications that intercept the ESC key (QZoom).

EDIT: My keyboard has an "alternate layout" button that I accidentally hit once in a while, and lose my function keys until I remember why. Perhaps your keyboard has something similar?

EDIT: Also, try to run in windowed mode. You can change the settings from the login screen. If windowed mode works, then it is a DirectX issue.

EDIT: By any chance are you using non-U.S. system?

EDIT: Try: SHIFT ESC

Appreciate your response its pretty sad a million dollar corporation resorts to the people who pay them to also find solutions to their products.

Anyhow I checked out your list and a few things I was immediatly able to check off such as the photoshop, and the alternative key issue. The keyboard Im using a Microsoft comfort curve 2000, with a razor naga mouse.

I run Eve in windowed mode and I searched your thoughts on DirectX and perhaps the Eve client has problems with directx11 or 9, I went Msconfig, changed my selective startup so it would only run Microsft services thinking this would narrow down the search. Had no luck there went to dxdiag to check my directx input found that I currently have 2 HID keyboard devices under PS/2 and even going to device manager and uninstalling the drives for the keyboard would immediatly install 2 again when plugging the keyboard usb back in. So im baffled.

nope, this has been going on with the eve client since atleast early last year. Any new OS from Microsoft normaly leads to a serious headache best to wait a year imo.

So I decide to do another reformat on my hard drive, at the moment all keys are working witth eve, however I've only downloaded the drivers that were essential from windows update and my motherboard provider. The only difference from before is I haven't downloaded any DirectX features except for what the Eve client prompted me to install. Diffiniltley will monitor what updates I install to troubleshoot the conflict.

Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2532531)

Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB982018)

Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2529073)

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB976932)

Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB971033)

Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2505438)

These six updates were downloaded and immediatly after restart no more key functions for eve, so perhaps it's Windows 7 Service Pack 1.

After several tests I can say without a doubt it's Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for atleast x64 based systems is whats causing the problem. So just go ahead and give me a free year subscription CCP for the free technical support I gave your buffoon tech department.
