EVE has been dying since 2003, but subscriber numbers climb each year.

A growing number of subscribers is a clear indication of the death of an MMO.

That depends entirely on whether the unique player count is going up, or people are just getting more alts.

Actually, no it doesn't.

All those types who claim EVE is about to hit the bucket are wrong.

I think...

1) Dust will bring in new players to EVE, increasing sub numbers and competition - a good thing. Dust also seems like it may not be as terrible as it could have been and may yet make some sales.
.

No it will nor. The average console players plays a new FPS for about 3 months, or until the new FPS comes out.(Call of Duty)
MOST of Dust players swill just be current Eve subscribers. Dust tying into Eve is a waste of time. There's plenty broken in Eve they coukd fix instead of trying to tie Dust into Eve.

Considering that console players have never before had the options and inherent advantages for longer term game play in a game before, never had a remotely similar free to play experience before, and never had continual free content expansions on a regular basis before... I'd say it's predictions are purely opinion and it's quite a stretch to try to apply them to DUST.

It's like in the days before cell phones were invented... confidently predicting that nobody would be interested in them because nobody IS using them and we already have house phones. Smile

Console players do not want a complex, skill based game. They want to load, blow crap up, brag, then do something else or play Call of Duty/HALO for hours.

I just turned into an egg, did I level up? I spent an hour trying to salvage a wreck, when in local a guy said "Stop it, this is my Tempest, I was AFK"

And if theres nothing different to point to and go 'see, thats just a better idea that you can get more out of than a 6 hour single player and a load of immature idiots online' then that fact will never change.

Its as much about demonstrating that yes there is a different way to play an FPS as it is about getting new players.

2) Still early times but the winter expansion looks good. The new bounty and crimewatch system looks great. Viable bounty hunters is something this game has needed since its creation. New destroyers have also been needed for a long time.

3) EVE has remained stable despite a tough few years. Things are on the up.

While i don't believe eve is dead yet nor soon it has become bloated and the kind of doodoo children here now make game play stink, I fly out in my Mexican Pinata industrial filled with toys and candy drop a can and shot the first taker, this way I get blown up, I don't mind losing but it seems a new breed is so afraid of having a killboard filled with losses, ive PVP in low sec, null, WH every time a loss, so what, Im not looking to get a gold star and dont care if PVP corp wont bring me on board because of my doodoo killboard i dont want to fly with a bunch of "must wins" that get mad at losing, i find it funny when doodoo hits the fan and flies all over every body geezus to HAVE to win all the time makes it no fun because you worry to much.

I'm living proof that eve is still bringing in new players. I love this game. The only gripe I have is the learning curve but it's a very welcome change from other games. The player base is also very helpful! My very first tip was stay away from the goons:) my corp also added two new players last week.
