Would like to get some constructive criticism on this I am far from an movie editor or anything , so if you got pointers tips help etc it's all welcome.

Logo was made in Photoshop
Movie edited in After effects

Various scenes of fleet fights cut into memorable scenes, mainly 0.0 fights and rag explosion used from CCP's Fanfest trailer movie.
Made complete composition in full HD (1080p)

I hope you guys like it ! I for one think it turned out nicely Smile

Hi,

I like it, good mix of action and music, and some of the slow scenes were really well put together!

Only criticism I have is that you posted it in the wrong forum, so I've moved this thread from General discussion.

As you've asked...

It lacked setup and payoff with the opening scenes, where you had close ups of ships fighting with the GUI switched on, to later shots of the same thing, with no context. This can work, but without context, is meaningless shot after meaningless shot, with cinematic music playing in the background that, although I'm sure was meant to mirror the composition, it didn't; because I do not know what the context is.

So, I'm not criticizing the shots, as they look nice, just the way in which you've edited it.

And using CCP footage is weak; I'm firmly against it.

So - harsh as it may (or may not) sound: this is a mess of editing, because I don't know what message you are trying to convey, what the context is, who these people are, what they want and why, where any of the footage was taking place and why, etc etc etc.

All I do know is that you have an alliance with some corps in, and at some point you fought someone, somewhere and you happen to have frapsed it.

In other words, what you call memorable scenes, I just call scenes - because the context is completely lost on me, because I do not know what it is.

Oh, and this goes out to anyone and everyone, ffs stop using youtube, the compressions ratios are so frick' high it turns high quality footage into poop.

Use www.eve-files.com as then everyone can DL the original file and watch it without compromising the quality.

OR you could use Vimeo, as their compression is nowhere near as high.

You used AE to edit? That's....ambitious, not to mention time consuming - I think you'd be able to edit faster if you used Prem Pro and then opened the project file in AE, for your colour correction and text animation and stuff.

Talking of text...

Text/font is very very important. I know we all mock and joke when we hear of a company spending squillions on standardising their corporate image and having long-into-the-night sessions trying to finalise the choice of font, but, it is important. With that in mind, and genuinely asking the question here: why spend time on a logo and then no time picking the font for your main text? Or, just picking something bland like Times New Roman, unless my eyes deceive me. I would have tried something like Microgramma Medium, or Antique Olive Std, or Agilita Extra, even might have tried the EVE Font (Eve Sans Neue) in small caps.

In addition to this, the transitions for the text of the corps at the end was just too damn fast. Remember, if you put text onto the screen, people's brain's are going to try and read it, they have no control over this, so having the transitions that fast just aggravates the viewer, because their brain gets a nasty jolt "READ ME!" and then takes away the opportunity to do so. Sucks, but that's biology.

Overall, I kinda 'get' what you were trying to accomplish, I just think you were way off the mark on making it appeal to anyone outside of your circle of influence.

Be happy to talk more on eve-voice...
