There is literally nothing we can do to police recruitment scams to prevent people from scamming legitimate newbies and such a thing isn't even on the totem pole of org priorities.

But a new player is rarely a lucrative target for a scam unless they've purchased PLEX. The usual guideline is 3 months or older, and by your third month you should know that you can get scammed in EVE. Many of our marks, including all of my own, are years-old veterans who are either totally oblivious to this fact or aware that scamming exists in EVE but gullible enough to fall for it anyway.

The fact that year old player fall for scams like that is sad.

We occasionally get those "new players" who are obviously the exclusive targets of our scams to jump their carriers (known for being flown by new players) into our systems where they're met with a welcoming party: http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=14428449

Do you honestly expect to find any community on the internet, anywhere, where this isn't the case? Dude you're a fuckin idiot.

Also, you really don't come off as champion of the n00bs, you come off as someone the goons screwed over and now you're bitter about it. Might want to dial it back. Just sayin...

Hey all

This post is just in regards to watch out for the goons and their convincing join our corp/alliance scams... it is very convincing but as i know now was a waste of time and isk, i started out new and bought some isk because i wanted a little kick start. anyhow now to business

They start by doing a normal interview and telling you about the programs that goons run like for example ship replacement and carrier programs for people that wish to go down that road, it gets to the point where they ask you to applied at a site which looks really well made and legit, where you have to supple your API code(full) in which they check how much isk you have and determine an entry fee to make sure your not a spy...... and at the same time shorty after they tell you that they have a free relocating service in which they can help you transfer all of your goods to their home base so by the time your accepted you'll be ready to go.

please heed this warming don't fall for these scams, if someone opens a private conversation with you that is from goonswarm that wish to recruit you just close it and don't bother, save your time and maybe a lot of isk.

i simply joint a new game with some extra in-game money and well wanted to join the biggest group out there as my reasoning was that, if they are one of the larges names/ or amount of people they must be doing something right which i wanted to learn from(pvp wise).

i was very much disappointed but in the same time good on you that was worth paying for the isk in return for the entertainment of fake recruiting, the amount of effort you went through to convince me was outstanding.

so in short new players this is just another scam to be aware of, my only tip and exp out of this is to only join a corp that DOES NOT require a entry fee for any reason.

rant done

fly safe!.

o7.

p.s fyi website link i was told to apply at was

www.goonfleet.net

EDIT: i have decided to release the names(characters) which scammed me, they still exist and are part of Goonwaffe from alliance Goonswarm Federation;

Ivan Isakov
Robus Muvila
Goonswarm Recruitment

This information is solely to help prevent new players talking to them and falling into the same trap.

Seems legit.

I think you just screwed the process up somewhere. I would just try again.

Hi, I meant idiots/assholes in general I don't mention scamming. Other games/communities may not allow scamming but are still **** of fuckheads.

Hey man, Corps of Goons aren't the only ones. I got the same scam from a member of the "Distinguished Gentleman's Boating Club [DGBC]" Of the Test Alliance. Sadly, I even knew and read Test's requirements and all, but the guy and his female counterpart were pretty convincing. The leader of that corp was a jack when I asked him to deal with the guy, even though I didn't ask for compensation (my stupid fault, for falling for that scam). Lost my entire fleet of about 2 Bill ISK.

Working as intended. Live and learn.

What is truly amusing about this is that the old Goon recruitment scam is the most famous scam in EVE.

It's on the EVElopedia. It's on Wiki. The Goons, themselves, on their website, tell you it's a scam.

People in local/the forums/random passersby will inform you with the obligatory 'Its a tarp!' comment.

At this point CCP could have a big red sign on the login screen saying "Oh, and if a Goon asks you for ISK to join their corp, ITS A TRAP" and still some dumb ass will fall for it.

Lol

Everything in EVE is a trap.

And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)

You want to know what immorality in EVE Online looks like? Look no further than Ripard "Jester" Teg.

Chribba is the Chuck Norris of EVE.

So...you think there are a lot of people with mental handicaps playing EVE? Hmm...that could explain some things... Big smile

EVE doesn't allow that either. These guys are scamming in game money. How the victims conjured up the money is irrelevant.

What's even more of a joke is Goonswarm is actually listed as a new player friendly corp on the Eve launcher. Some helpless noob looking over that might even think Goonswarm is endorsed by CCP to be new player friendly.

Goonswarm Alliance is honestly chock full of newbie programs. We are very new player friendly. What we aren't is idiot friendly. And honestly only an idiot would have problems getting into Goonwaffe if they really wanted in.

EDIT:

It should also be noted that Goonwaffe itself is the harder one to get into. Several of our pubcorps are much easier. And just about any idiot could wander into one of our allied alliances

Double Edit:

All these complaints about newbie scams are silly. Newbies don't have anything to steal.
