They just seem so blatantly obvious that it seems like no one would ever fall for it.

What's the worst scam you have fallen for? Own up here!!!

Yes people do...

If they did not people would not be scamming.

Yup I bought once a faction shield priced at 33 mil and paid 330 mil. Lol

The worst thing was when trying to pull of the same scam to get my money back I misplaced the dot so I sold it back for 33 mil.
That week I was mister double head desk. Ugh

Yes, and often. Keep in mind Jita is the first likely system visited by a new player looking to pick up gear. New players are easily parted with their money. Aside from that, it's also rammed with wealthier, older market types looking to snag good deals - some scams are tailored to catch those folks specifically.

I paid 1.4bil instead of 1.4mil for an autocannon once off the market. **** happens!

Do not assume anything above this line was typed by me. Nerf the Truth, it's inconvenient.

I nearly fell for the 1mil for a faction frig scam.

Three contracts get linked, 2 are sold where the price shows 1mil. The third one is for 1bil though. But because you think the other two must have sold really fast you tend to quickly hit accept to get the last '1mil' faction frig and end up paying 1bil.

Didn't fall for it though, but thought this one was pretty clever. Better than the, send me 100mil and ill double it type of scams.

I know someone who nearly fell for a couple of scams, one was a tengu where the sub systems where books, so always make sure it says fitted is the best way to avoid that one..

The other was a plex where it was up for a little cheaper than normal but it but contract did not only ask for the money but also has "you will give 1x plex" so i guess it works by you buying it but then it takes it right back! god knows how, i tryied it myself and it failed haha, then i gave up trying to scam.

The scams are interesting i think, the bots that spam the crap are not...

If people didn't, people wouldn't bother with scamming.

I may have never noticed it much before, but the one selling a T3 cruisers with scammers putting subsystems skillbooks (listed simply as 'Subsystems') with the aim of making thinking people think they're actual subsystems seems to be getting rather popular.

Another one that seems like it'd be easier for someone to fall for is the underpriced PLEX, where you get a PLEX for say 450mil but pay a PLEX as well.

I've yet to understand how people get scammed so easily :I

Its not that hard to not let go of your money before inspecting the product.

Once I fell on margin trading scam. And nearly fell to "you will give 1x plex". Also "double isk" is a good scam, because it like poker, once I won 10kk, but then lost 20 ).

Eh, I've messed around with the double ISK thing, each time they'd double, but I'd only send back 1.5x the amount I sent last, they got bored because they wouldn't come out ahead.

People don't fall for the scams in Jita, except for a tiny percentage of people. But given the large amount of traffic, and the low cost of setting up a scam, that tiny percentage can mean big profits. So scams abound. Smile

Plus the fact that CCP does nothing about spambots making them easy to maintain even if it takes hours before someone falls for a scamtract.

the ones where they put a contract for a plex at cheap prices and ask for a plex in return as well sneakily probably are sometimes accidentally accepted by people who are trying to get into plex selling and don't know a lot about contracts.

I once annoyed a scammer In Jita, he was trying to sell a retriever as a hulk. I told him to list it as a mackinaw in a private convo and he got butt hurt and called me every name under the sun. So I bought a retriever and within 5 minutes of posting it in Jita local I sold it as a mackinaw. Guy raged quite hard after that.

I almost fell for this one on four Stilettos. Got three at the great price, then almost clicked on Accept for the fourth one at the scam price. But did "count the zeroes, 1, 2, 3, 4..." and didn't. Was pretty happy about nibbling the bait off the hook and getting three Stilettos cheap.
