I absolutely agree with the OP on this. Why is CCP making minmatar ships actually look functional? I WANT TO FLY JUNK SHIPS.

My main ships are Stabber and Vagabond, and I'm so very disappointed by the new models; They look so uncharacteristically minmatar

As someone who has been a Minmatar fan since 2003, I'm very glad for the changes and modernisation.

My one urge of caution for you is that you appear to be basing your opinion on Concept artwork and an un-textured ship model.
No point geting too bent out of shape until you've seen what it looks like properly.

I appreciate your thoughts Suvetar that these are preliminary and not yet textured, but the concern is that the next thing we will see is the final product. For that reason I think reasonable feedback within that context is appropriate.

I didn't see links for the very preliminary rendered tempest in this thread yet:

Ignoring the textures, in my mind it appears too 'squat' as if it got squished - needs more top wingy bits at the least.

And agreeing with OP, I hope minmatar ships never lose their distinctive appearance, rust and all.

So happy with all the new models.

Do not assume anything above this line was typed by me. Nerf the Truth, it's inconvenient.

I love the direction the new Minny ships are headed. Rusted looking spaceships were always bemusing.

I fell in love with the concept of cheaply thrown together spaceships. The Tempest? That piece of **** looks like some Matar engineers in a hurry, had to cut off a piece of an equally ugly station and stick some guns on it because there was no time for design. And it's perfect. The Stabber seems like the entire core was centered off a structure pillar and I'm fine with that.

Why is everyone obsessed with making Minmatars look more futuristic akin to the Amarr or Gallente? The Minmatar is supposed to be the least advanced. The look rugged scrap look goes well with it.

The Maelstrom is the most ugliest ship I've ever seen for the Minmatar.Evil

In rust I trust.
Sorry man but the rustbucket least advanced argument doesn't really work anymore. Its been generations since the Minmatar rebellion, a time when ships were crudely made and primitive due to resource shortages and lack of skilled personel, that time has long since passed, and the Sebiestor are supposed to be some of the greatest engineers in the cluster, isn't it about time Minmatar ships began to reflect that?

Also roleplay reasons aside, all those antennae sticking off the old hulls alias like crazy, I'm glad CCP has abandoned those in the modernized designs, overall the new textures are much smoother looking, well done CCP.

I was thinking this when I read the OP. Sure the Minmatar would have, in their early days, throw stuff together. But such technical prowess is not static. The kinds of people who can do that will improve on their designs because they know the shortcomings of the original and because they would apply the same tenacious engineering concepts to the improvement.

Going with the spirit of Minmatar concept approaches, their ships should be a hybrid of old and new. Of all the races, their ships should be the ones to change more often.

u not likes Minmatar gaining power? u not likes Minmatar in your base killing ur doods?
HTFU Cool

so far the re-modeling of the Stabber, Vagabond and Tempest are very good IMO. if there's anything you should hate, it's the tier 2 Minny destroyer. Evil

The Sebestior are the bet engineers in the cluster. This is reflected in the way they manage to turn the support strut for a freighter's cargo bay into the fastest standard cruiser in space. These ships are not simply thrown together: they are very deliberately built to perform a function. The Minmatar don't have time and resources to waste on diminishing the efficiency of their designs by bolting on great big shiny metal plates, or worse yet moving bits of the ship around to cater to aesthetic sensibilities.

I appreciate that after a hundred years we have finally found the time to polish some of these designs. Still thoroughly engineered to be the highest performance vehicles in space, but now with finesse Big smile

As I see it, there's too much "out with the old, in with the new" going on in regards to ship designs, textures and whatnot. It's like the people working on it never really bothered looking into the original design language. Minnie ships should be reddish, not brown. Amarr ships should be golden, not brown.

and Duvolle Labs(Gallente T2) should not be brown also. Lime Green Deimos / Green Thrust Trails. GIMME.

The 'modernization' or solidifying of Minmatar ships started with the Hurricane and the carriers in my opinion, and those are some of the best looking ships in the game... As is the Tornado, though I preferred it when it was a darker brown and had gray metallic fins instead of blue solar panels. The Hound is also great at a model level, my favorite of the bomber redesigns, but again I preferred it when it was dark brown. The camo makes a mess of it. The new Stabber concept art looks great, and I'm still not sure how I feel about the Tempest. Overall I like CCP's direction for Minmatar. For me, aside from the camo and beige skins, the only missteps have been the Reaper and the new destroyer.

Minmatar are just Klingons with sunglasses and halter-tops (females)... they should fly ships that look cool... the new models look cool, look Minmatar and look like they mean business... and they have rust, just like klingon ships do.

Klap-lah (or whatever it is) to the Kling-matars (or is it Minma-gons?) and the new Tribal Fleet for which they stand, one vagabond, finned again, for use in pvp and blowing up for all...ahem and so mode it be and stuff...

Ugh

I think it was in Clear Skies 2 that they make the great observation that when the Minmatar aren't running for their lives they can build some pretty awesome vessels, the Maelstrom being the example. The new destroyer of course not being an example of anything other than a designer working through a really bad hangover.
