I am no scientist so I have no answers, but maybe our planet is super rare in the cosmos being 70% water could that have something to do with it? . I think that "alien" lifeforms is a must in a ever expanding universe with an infinite numbers of stars and planets. They may well be 1 million years more advanced than us, maybe 100 million years more advanced you never know teenagers may learn warp theory in classes at high school....

This is of course speculation on my part but I do 100% believe there is advanced races helping us move forward.

Hydrogen and oxygen being the first and third most abundant elements respectively there are likely countless planets with a similar environment.

I think what she meant was that in or an alien to come here -- and risk being poisoned from breathing the carbon dioxide sludge we pump into the air, blown up by missile, meltdown or madman, or seeing anything but a giant galactic garbage dump -- would either be a miracle or a sign that ET needs his eyes checked.

btw the gizmodo article left out cell phones. Sacrilege!
At least NASA isn't throwing money at an ST transporter; build a new person at the destination and demolecularize the existing one lol. That just doesn't seem right on many levels. I mean basically that is the ultimate clone machine for one thing, to just keep pushing out whatever is copied in the pattern buffers, as it's just data.

But as for warp drive, there would need to be some sort of shielding from radiation, for people and systems. The universe is quite deadly, indeed. Then you need to invent a deflector dish/navigational deflector, otherwise your ship disintegrates at the first ant it hits.

but seriously, they should be worried more about just getting into orbit at this point, or we'll need to change their name, drop the S. We give them money to thumb it into orbit now; to ride up on someone else's rocket.

The Transporter doesn't do that, it moves the entire object my moving all of its atoms and molecules trhough subspace. Since matter cannot be created or destroyed (unless Anti-Matter and Energy Condensation are involved), then-

This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Perhaps, but not carbon dioxide as it is not poisonous and really, it's not even a pollutant.

Maybe you were thinking of carbon monoxide?

So... ummm... what about causality?

This.

I don't think FTL communication or travel will ever be possible because it is causes paradoxes to any observers moving at different speeds. Results would occur before the trigger.

Stuff like this, in this news, is interesting and definitely worth research, but there's always a "gotcha".

Unless you apply wormhole mechanics. If you generate a wormhole, you travel faster to the other side than for light outside the wormhole traveling to the same destination. Light inside the wormhole still travels faster than the man or machine traveling within the wormhole.

However, a wormhole doesn't need to span the universe, but to just open a gate to subspace for travel... if we can travel in subspace since we don't really know what it is yet. imo subspace is probably full of white holes.

But for "warp drive", I think it's problematic as well, at least at high speeds. Sub-light warpdrive would still be very useful until NASA researches something important like wormhole travel and maybe cold fusion to power ships.

I'm in it for the money

From what I understand, it doesn't matter how something gets from A to B, whether its warp drive, subspace, quantum entanglement or wormholes, if it happens faster than light for one observer, then it will occur the "wrong way around" for another observer and cause a paradox.
