Proteus PVE viable fit for WH ops?

Hey guys-

I'm currently planning on training a Proteus as the first T3, and I've been doing a lot of reading how its excellent in PVP, particularly WH pvp. The corp I'm looking to join runs an armor doctrine, and since I have skills in Gallente (no T2 ships yet), I looked at the Proteus as the T3 I'd like to fly first.

Are there any viable PVE WH fits for this? I was thinking about a 4x sentry fit with rails, or something similar. I figured since you guys probably know way more than I do about T3s, can you give me any suggestions?

Not really. Drones don't work well in wormholes and medium rails suck.

Unfortunately not - in the higher class wormholes you lack the range to apply any meaningful damage + they neut like hell. In the lower end ones they can "be okay" but it's nothing that a mega couldn't do better for 1/3 of the price.

Do not listen to the people telling you that it will not work. It is true that any of the other t3s will do it a little better probably, however if you are willing to spent a little isk on the ship it is great up to c3 solo for PVE.
This fit has worked great for our corps gallente pilots so far. For c1 or c2 you can easily exchange most of the stuff to t2 and will still get a decent fit to solo with.

For pvp the proteus is just awesome! If your fleet runs an armor doctrine in wh they will probably have a standart proteus fit for you for pvp.

T1 ships are in most cases better than T3s for wormhole PVE, unless you for some reason insist on soloing the sites and fighting gankers solo.

That said, Proteus is just as viable as any (probably closer to Tengu than the others) for C1-3. Garde IIs + 250mm rails do ~600dps @ 45km, Neutron+Ogres or a fit like above will work as well, and are more fun to fly.

Neuting can be problem in profession sites, you will need a steady supply of cap boosters.

T3s are not really that efficient (=safe) in WH PVE, keep in mind they are just cruisers, with BC dps. RR Domis, Oneiros+Taloses and other fun fleets are quite a bit better than T3s.

With a proper fleet even in high class holes they are great. Get logistics that can multitask and send cap outside of a chain and prots can speed up site running and make isk more efficiently than tengu balls.

The corp I'm looking at are in a C5 with a C5 static. The sites they run are with Guardians.

I don't really want to train for a Legion, per se, since I have an alt training Amarr cruiser V for logi and then into a triage Archon. I wonder, though, if a Loki would be a better dps boat in a C5 than a Proteus would? And with the Proteus, would it be via sentries and rails or blasters and sentries or what?

Fleet needs a combination of ships. Proteus is there for DPS, Legion for range and Loki for webs/DPS. Drone blob can be effective if there are enough of them. Blaster Prot = Win. Just need to broadcast for Cap and armor and be willing to pilot around.
