What is the smallest ship class that can tank gate guns solo

Im sure that the BC ships and above can tank them for a while, but no one is running a one man gatecamp with a rifter as they would be insta popped by the gateguns.

Could a non T3 cruiser tank the guns and if they could how long would it be for.

further questions

1. whats the raw damage gate guns do
2 how often do they fire.
3. Is there tracking perfect
4. Im sure that the range is 250K, confirm?

Man if your assault frig can do it my hat is off to you... I would say cruiser class... an Onyx has no problems. You can tank out a T1 cruiser to pull it off too w/ a little dough and some implants... that is confirmed. I tried in a few assault frigs (on Tranquility... doe!) and they got popped in short order. ...there is a very real possibility I'm just not skilled or smart enough to figure it out though so give it a crack on singularity per the above post and see what happens...

it actually depends on the ship class... the bigger the ship the further they fire I think. I generally don't get shot at at 198k in a cruiser or below...

1. A little over 300dps, spread fairly even among all 4 types. (In lowsec - 2 guns assumed)
2. Every 2-3 seconds - it's not high alpha.
3. Very nearly - frigates don't take reduced damage. Most drones are insta-popped or down in 2 shots. Gate guns don't miss.
4. 150km from the object they are protecting - not from the gun. Outside 150k you are safe.

As to your original question, anything with a buffer tank will last about as long as its EHP survives ~300dps. Anything that can tank 350+ dps will be able to sit there indefinitely.

The only way frigates survive gate gun engagements is by luck of the draw in large groups. Gate guns cycle targets somewhat randomly, and will often target drones instead of ships (given there are usually 5x as many drones as ships to choose from, odds are for drones going down).

You didn't really have a time limit on the tanking.
For about 0.1 of a second they tank quite well.
After about half a second or two the epic tank gives up.

Even cruisers have a tough time doing this and having pvp capabilities better than killing badgers.

Best results = bring more people. Gate guns spaz the more people and drones you lay before them.

I think 4 people and some drones popped In and out are all you need to make their existence unobtrusive to your objective

Hics and most tanky HACs can tank gate guns solo long enough for a quick gank or a noob in a cruiser/bc, and in a gang they should be able to tank indefinitely.

Some T1 cruisers can be fit with a 1600mm plate and can survive long enough for a quick gank of a hauler or poorly tanked cruiser, however in a gang they can take on bigger targets once the sentries start switching targets.

Most recons should be able to tank the guns long enough for your gang to show up and bail you out, or long enough to bail out your gang.

There are some tanky af's out there that can tank long enough to kill a cyno frig be for being force to warp away, however it's still risky.

Destroyers (i'm thinking of the thrasher here) can't really tank the guns as much as they can kill their targets (cyno, or untanked frigs) before the sentries kill them.

All that being said, I don't recommend solo work on gates, once something starts shooting back you will be in big trouble.

1) Approx 300-350. Dmg has racial emphasis (e.g. Gallente - a bit more kin/term).
2) Dunno, 2-3 sec.

Use a dictor onyx, broadsword.

If you have a boosting legion, a dualrep vengeance could do it easily, with tank to spare to fight something.

Dualrep vengeances are not good ships IMO, but they do tank like crazy.
