…and even before that, it has excellent DPS — it just wasn't fully applicable in realistic PvP situations at the time.

Show me a BC (non Tier 3) that does better damage at 70km. The Drake does the same damage at 70km that a Cane with Barrage does at 25km (ignoring the fact that falloff reduces the Cane's damage at that range).

Let's take a look, to match the 396DPS at 73km of a 2 BCU Drake*:
The Arty Cane... can't do it. 234DPS at 70km (Tremor) or 409DPS at 10km (Quake).
The RailRox... not even close. 350DPS at 27km (AM) with 4 Magstabs.
The Beam Harbi... not even close. 332DPS at 54km (Aurora) with 6 Heat Sinks.

The HM Drake has had Best in Class DPS for a long time. People have been pointing that out for a long time. The fact that people have begun to think that the HM Drake is in the same class as the SR BCs (AC Cane, Blaster Brutix, Pulse Harbi) is just more damning evidence that there's a problem with the HM Drake.

*Many common fits use 3 BCUs, so the gulf is even wider for those.

Sorry PvP noob here - How does a drake do all that damage at 73km and stop the target getting away?

Teamwork.


More specifically, you could go with light tackle close it, Bubbles in Null, or Arazu/Lachesis sitting with the main group of Draeks (with Rapier/Huginn to really pin them down).
