Of course they encourage scamming. They have been scamming people for years, getting them to pay for what has actually been one big Beta test. Cool

A response to the thread title: so what? If you're dumb enough to fail for one of the scams, you deserve to lose your ISK.

I just turned into an egg, did I level up? I spent an hour trying to salvage a wreck, when in local a guy said "Stop it, this is my Tempest, I was AFK"

Dont worry... CCP will look at it a diffrent way eventually...

Lets say a new player joins the game.. He or She spends many days making ISK and enjoying the game.. They even subscribe and pay to play.. This new player.. Been playing for a few weeks now.. Has mad a fair few ISK.. Sees a random contract in trade.. Looks like an amazing deal.. NEW PLAYER.. Not knowing how to avoid scams or that even scams exists.. Falls for the scam.. Loses all ISK.....

This new player.. Very angry goes to CCP and tells them what happend.. They tell him/her nothing they can do.. Part of the game.. Others players just tell him/her to HTFU.. New player quits the game..

Now.. I believe this is a bad way to go... But i also believe that every player needs to take it upon themselves to not get scammed.. Check and check again... Dont let yourself get scammed.. Too good to be true, then it is false..

So i call it 80% player fault for not checking and making sure... 10% scammer for doing it.. 10% CCP for openly endorsing scamming people in their game...

BUT

If its a player who has been playing a long time and knows the rules of this WORLD.. You knew they were out there.. CHECK AND CHECK AGAIN..

BUT

For a new player who does not understand this in EVE yet.. May never want too... Probably lose all ISK and just quit...

No growth in the game.. No extra money for CCP.. Less Content for us... Expanding world DOES NOT expand.. Game goes down hill.. Getting very little subs..

Trolls can troll.. But simple fact... This game needs subs..

I personally dont care about scammers, never been scammed, never scammed someone.. But when it stops new players joining... WHICH IT DOES.. I have seen it happen so many times..

Newer players getting completly TROLLED in local... Losing everything we have all seen it...

There needs to be a line somewhere...

Thats all i have to say...

New player then goes off and tells all his gamer friends about the negative experience he had with EVE, over time enough people quit and tell their friends why they quit and soon EVE develops a reputation, ultimately resulting in fewer and fewer new players.

Scamming, valid gameplay mechanic to some, reason why EVE will always remain a niche game to others.

Not to mention with new space based MMOs like Starlite, Kerbal Space Program, and single player options like X Rebirth on the horizon, can CCP really afford to continue taking the old "nothing we can do about it, harden up" approach?

So far I've enjoyed EVE, but it is an aging game, its not really offering much in the way of new gameplay options to keep long time players interested, and their is fresh competition coming.

…he will not be scammed because he won't have any money worth taking. Thus the supposed problem has solved itself before it even existed, and no, CCP will not do anything about one of the most frequent sources of free advertisement.

Too bad, also, that it's only a “niche game” in terms of catering to one particular audience — it's certainly not niche in terms of numbers. Thinking that CCP would step in to “fix” perfectly working game mechanics is just foolish.

In the month that I've been playing I've had multiple people try and lure me into lowsec in an attempt to ransom me, two people try to recruit me into their corp requiring isk "deposits", and one guy who kept private convoing me asking for isk to help him afford the deposit for joining a player corp.

People do try to scam new players, I'm sure atleast some fall for it, and I'm sure they go and tell their friends what happened after they quit.

Tippia wrote:

I don't think its foolish considering how much griefer whining I've seen on this forum about how their playstyle is apparently being nerfed out of existance.

Here come the trolls...

You only hold the game back..

You take the conversation to a completely random and stupid point that no one cares about..

Picking little bits of comments out and making comments on those alone without explanation or meaning or even a point yourself..

You mad bro?

Yes... I am mad... WE ALL ARE.. This game has become a haven for those who act like complete idiots..

The forums are thick to the brim with them...

The game even more so...

YOU... Give the game a bad reputation...

You flame people... You antagonise people.. You point the finger, you purposefully call out people..

Its sickening and its making the game sick..

Scam, Troll the game, Troll the forums, Insult, Be stupid, act crazy, Hooray.. Well done to you

All the while people who actually care about this game and its future have to deal with your bullshit.. CCP included..

I feel sorry if this is how you act in real life.. But we all know it isnt..

Gonna troll back to this? ofcourse... You cant not...

The simple fact remains: you are ticking every box on this little list of yours and you're trying to ruin a game that has worked splendidly for close to a decade by turning it into something that's more akin to those games who are happy to live past their first year.

Stop blaming your problems on others and learn the rules of the game you've chosen to play. Nether your trolling nor your confusion about the meaning of ellipses will help you overcome that lack on knowledge.

Only problem I have is that, as an already subscribed player, I can make an unlimitted amount of alts on trial accounts without using a unique email for each one.

It kind of trivializes the whole idea of your name being attached to your actions. Why not gank on a trial account, scam on a trial acount, or just do anything on a trial account that I don't want associated with this guy so that I don't get a reputation for doing naughty things.

Scamming is fine, I see nothing wrong with it. I just wish it wasn't so easy for people to get around not developing a reputation for scamming because they can just keep making trial accounts.

Seriously CCP, wtf does an already playing character need a trial account for? You trial something to see if you like it, not to light cynos or scam people.

If you needed a unique email for each trial then you would have far fewer people doing things that would give them a bad repution. One guy in Jita lists the name of known scammers, lot of good that does when the character doesn't exist three weeks later.

I understand that they do it this way so that people who try the trial but don't sub and may want to give it another shot a few months later can, but that's as simple as only allowing one trial a month per email, and no trials on subscription emails.

…and none of it was due to scamming. In fact, if anything, it was due to an attempted move away from that kind of gameplay. Fancy that. So yes, what you're advocating has already proven to be immensely destructive to the game (and to pretty much all other games that have tried it).

I didnt just mention scamming now did i... Perhaps next time quote the whole sentence i said...

It all happend because of general game development and the direction it was going.. People didnt like it where it was heading.. Scamming is a tiny part of that.. Like i said.. Quote the rest as to not mislead..

To the original point which you said about things have worked "Splendidly"

Things are not...

They are getting better...

But there are so many things left unchecked..

To get on topic tho...

Scamming needs to have a line that shouldnt be crossed to avoid losing new players or even older players.. Yet the line is so far crossed.. There is no line... Not even a reflection of a line that once was..

No amount of trying to sneak your (inaccurate and uninformed) opinion in there will change that.

No. It really isn't. Scamming has been one of the main draws of the game for many many years now — it has pulled in far more people than it has ever put off.

I know that is true, also must people start playing EvE for that reason. Everyone heard some amazing history like burn jita and hulkageddon or some major scamming/heist, it is great publicity.
