Sub-warp speeds in eve are actually fairly low by space's standards. It's just the accelerations that are a little exaggerated, like frigates which often accelerate at well over 100 gravities.

Lore wise from what I remember EVE Space works like this. The Warp Drive is always turned on creating a perma warp bubble around the ship even in normal space which has the effect of making drag affect mass like in atmosphere, the drag is also what allows us to bank.

At what velocity is this "drag"? It can't be matched to the interstellar medium because then you would be pulled out of most solar systems at enormous speed. It can't be the nearest planet because then you would fall into that planet.

It could theoretically be anchored to gravitational wells rather than space itself, of course this is making the dozen or so assumptions the lore makes necessary.

I've always wished that stations were closer to their parent orbital bodies, something like LEO - they clearly aren't Geostationary.

It is. Its also the reason we are limited in our warping options, because our warp to targetter is gravity field based.

Lore = annoying game mechanics... sometimes.
