It seems that you can name anything "professional" in eve today. Roll

^^ this

wtf would this even be called a "career"?

although.

only 1 week into eve 3 years back, my first pvp kill was baiting a can griefer and 2 of us played a tango on his cane ass. sweetest kill we ever did...

so can stealing does have a use - if only to teach the miner how to stay calm, think and work the trap Bear

Why wouldn't it be a career in EVE if the person making it their career was able to keep themselves in ships through it?

With the recent sequential Nerfs to Suicide Ganking, the nerf to Wardecs (and the general brokenness of the system to begin with), and nerf to can flipping (with another, even more noxious nerf on the horizon), what significant risk do miners run?

Yes I've noticed this too, the ore thief/can flipping way to play is pretty much gone. Normally I'd be upset about this but there are just a tiny minority of players that do this correctly and do it for lols and fun like Zedrik Cayne and a few good stories above about miners killing the flippers. The rest of the can flippers I know are people that failed at 0.0/low-sec or are too scared to even try to go to 0.0/low. Then they kill 2 week old stabber pilots with miners and a civvy gatling gun and link kms showing how 1337 they are.

No really, killing people by can flipping gets insanely boring after a few times and the only thing you are teaching noobs is that they die so horribly in pvp that they should not try again. So yeah who cares that the can flipping profession is on its last legs

They now run the same risk as everyone else in hi sec.

Because daily freighter and industrial killmails, ganking, griefing and lol bumping confirming your post. Hisec, although more secure than null/low, is still most violent place in eve.

I don't think it's too dead. I see people still jettisoning into cans. Just have to be creative. In fact, use those mining barges/exhumers to your advantage. Since the procurer/skiff have good tanks on them, and a decent ore holds for ore thieving, put a pvp tank on one, add drone damage mods, and go have fun. I would suspect you could get close enough before they suspect something is up. Blink

I assume EVE blue-collars are tough. I had job like this too once in RL, hardy folks made everything themselves. I respect.

this has not changed 1 bit, its just you are not allowed to be the schoolyard bully anymore.

Instead of you robbing small children for their allowances, grow a pair, then actually shoot at something that can shoot back.

If they won't give you their ore in cans anymore....mine it from their hulls.

Problem solved.

Tell us more about bravery, noobcorp alt.

first - not a noob
second - not an alt

if your going to troll get your facts straight first

OP is upset that his gameplay style has been affected now that noobs and miners can hide their ore from him. What I am saying is that yes the "easy" stealing and griefing days are over, its time to adapt. Isn't that was EvE is all about...adapting and trying out new play styles and tactics.

Okay noob corp alt, read and comprehend:

YOu are in an NPC corp, which is where the noobs start. You are an alt.

If you want to talk about bravery and growing a pair, post with your main so we all know who you are.

My response to OP:

I used to be a can-flipper. Never did it for the money. did it for the "thrills" and I did for a quite a long time. It was done as a supplemental activity to doing contract war decs (merc work) in high sec, which has also been heavily nerf'd ... I know where you are coming from. Being successful at can flipping actually took a bit of wit and skill. Surfing belts for hours on end to find that one perfect target (much like lowsec) Pick the wrong person and you will soon be blown up by all his friends. Maybe you end up picking on someone who really doesn't care and just ignores you and you end up wasting your time. Then, you get the occasional gold mine. I remember a corp-mate of mine STEALING an Orca from an idiot. Guy flew to a belt, popped his hulk out of his orca, boarded his hulk and started dumping ore into his un-manned orca, so we relieved him of his dead weight and took his orca. I have also seen an Orca pilot take the can back..... that was fun :)

The thing is, can flipping can be fun if you know how to do it right. It will never be profitable to the point that you make it your primary source or revenue.

FC, what do?

The game will not grow if the griefers are allowed to **** off new players too much. There has to be a limit, otherwise stagnation will set in. Every company wants to see growth and if that means pissing off a few 'I get beat up in rl so I am gonna be a keyboard commando and take it out on strangers' type players then so be it. Subscriber growth is of much more import than keeping a few old players happy.

The game is going just fine since 2003.

Right and yours is really weird, since they did not remove ore stealing. It seems weird you would act like they did. They made it so people like the op now have to work at it, and they gave miners options to avoid it, so i will reverse the question, since when are options a bad thing? Big smile

and how many more subs would there be if the griefing was, not stopped, but toned down a bit? I am not attacking griefers, to each their own, but the point remains and is valid.
