Starbase return fire on passworded players?

I'm curious as to the game mechanics on POS towers.

If someone outside the alliance has the starbase password, then fires upon the setup. Will the POS guns return fire or just sit there?

Starbase agression mechanics are very very broken so I wouldn't work on the basis of what it should or should not shoot. Someone having the password set doesn't really do anything on its own other than allow that player into the FF they will depending on their corp standings to your corp be ignored or shot at tho mostly even someone with good standings will get shot at if they agress the POS.

EDIT: Also even if someone has good corp to corp standings with the POS owner but the POS is setup to engage people with poor security status they will be attacked but this seems broken too as sometimes it seems to attack people with negative sec even with that setting off and them having good standings with the POS corp.

Just to weigh in here a bit, before you go and do anything stupid..

Having the password means nothing. I was involved in an incident, where a jet can of mine was shot by the POS (through manual targeting). Let's just say i died shortly after...

I put in a petition, to ascertain the correct mechanics of the POS system. Thought it might be a good read...

Quote:
If the tower's guns were used to fire on your jettisoned container the tower would become flagged towards you. If there is no further interaction between you and the tower for 15 minutes those flags will wear off but being at the tower, including in the force field, would cause that flag to refresh, with it firing on you once you've left the safety of the force field. If you have any additional questions or matters we can assist with please let me know.

Obviously this applies to ANY agression toward the tower by anyone.

^^ Just to make it even more complicated - being inside the FF doesn't always cause the aggression flag to refresh :S (may depend on your standing to the POS owner corp not sure). Sometimes it will wear off after 15 minutes and sometimes not. This is especially bad as theres no way of knowing if it is or not and if someone unthinkingly or maliciously agresses the POS towards corp then someone else a bit later on in all innocence could motor out the FF or warp to a BM above POS and get BBQ'd by their own POS.

I'm paranoid around towers, i've seen players wasted for little to nothing. I find its best to consider them to have itchy trigger fingers, just waiting for some sort of violence to set them off. Shocked

Post with your main, like a BOSS!

And no, i don't live in highsec.  As if that would make your opinion any less wrong.

The POS defense AI can basically be thought of as skynet.

Mostly in that it hates you and wants you to die.

Except when it wants everyone to live in peace and won't shoot anyone at all...
