I know theres a monthly fee, but do you have to buy the game it self ? And if you do, do you get a month free or anything like that ?

Yes you get 1 month free, I have seen it as low as $5 USC at Half Price books.

I'm a nerd, you can check my stats!! Skilling Int/Mem at 45 sp per minute is how I mack!     I'm like a lapdog, all bark no bite.

Basic trial is 14 days, buddy invite trial is 21 days. The game is normally $15/month (less if you pay for multiple months). "Purchase" is $20 and comes with a month, so you could say the client itself is $5.

The standard "free trial period" is 14 days... 21 if you create an account using an invite from a currently subscribed player.

The monthly fee is ~15 USD.
There is also a "one off" activation charge when you start... I forget how much it is though (no more than 10 USD I believe).

And if you become very rich and successful in-game you can effectively play for free (by buying PLEX (30 day gametime tokens) off of other players.

I should also mention that all expansions are free.

with eve you:

you pay for your monthly subscription (about 15 $ a month - less if you pay longer time in 1 go)
you pay a 1 time administration fee with your first month (believe 5$)
the client and expansions are free.

weird part about this...this is very basic information also easily found on the eveonline webpage.

Race really only matters for looks and starting location. It doesn't confer any benefits that you can't overcome with a couple hours (at most) of training.

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. …"

Doesn't really matter, unlike other MMO's you're not stuck in a class system, if you're willing to invest in the skill books and the time you can fly anything & use any weapons system you want no matter what race you are.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

It doesn't matter which race you pick. The different traits are to the ships themselves which any one can fly.

Depends where you live as to how much it's gonna cost you. Don't bother paying for PLEX as it is likely cheaper to pay the monthly sub fee to CCP directly. For instance in the UK a PLEX is 60% more expensive than paying for 1 Month game time Shocked

Don't be one of the people on the forums half way through their trial asking "I started playing a monthly sub game and suddenly i can't actually afford the monthly fee. How can i make 500Million isk in 4 hours to buy a PLEX?"

Paying with in-game currency is something that takes much time and dedication at first and is usually well out of reach for the average player in their first 2 months (not counting ex-wow grind heros or russians).
