Can CCP Foil the Mining Bots by simply enabling it legitmately?

So we have Plex which is both a way to pay for the game with game money and real money redirecting funds that otherwise would go to ISK sellers back to CCP. Brilliant! Then there's the character bazaar where slackers can go a buy a character instead of training one up which they'd do anyway on eBay otherwise so CCP is smarter than most game companies and instead enables this while charging a fee in real money for it.

What about botting? In particular for mining. Would be be wise to enable this as a legitimate feature in the game with say a penalty to ship defenses to do it because of the required AI module so as to throw a bone to high sec gankers? Could something like this significantly diminish the allure of these cheat programs?

Why continue mining manually then? Well perhaps it would be like the difference between driving stick vs automatic. You can choose the best asteroids to mine if you control your ship directly etc.

I imagine the stress on the server caused by widespread unregulated bot mining would be... considerable.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPE.

"We will create the introduction thread if that is requested by the community. Also, we will have an ISD Seminar about the CCL team in the coming weeks in which you can ask your questions about the CCL team and provide some constructive feedback to us." - Countless pages of locked threads and numerous permabanned accounts later, change is coming.

What I mean is this: you would buy a module like any other that would enable you to control your ship remotely like a drone to mine automatically while you say fly around in an orca or some other ship perhaps to shoot roots. I don't mean allowing 3rd party bot programs.

In fact you could control X barges with advanced skill Smile

Ideologically horrible idea, but actually well thought out and justified.

You can detect bots easier then detecting people selling there accounts on Ebay.

Down with the bots! Mining, ratting and complex running bots.

The only way to defeat the bots is to have mining in highsec nerfed into oblivion. Let's see the bots handle mining in lowsec and nullsec. Smile

Just remember if something like this shows up one day that you saw it here first!

Botters would continue to bot regardless if only because of the sheer volume of bots they can deploy at a given time, on the other hand the impact drastic nerfs to highsec mining would have on people properly playing the game would be devastating.

No. We saw it in X² first.

In fact, if that's the gameplay you want, I can highly recommend the series.

It's funny that you think there aren't bots in low and null. Hmm, would i rather bot in high sec, where any person in local could be someone set to gank me, or in low/null, where when any person enters local, the script warps them to a safespot(s)?

As to the OP, no. Also, features and ideas is another forum.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

What's X²? Some game I assume. I didn't say that I liked the idea I simply proposed it.

I think what everyone else means is NO.

Great idea, destroy the economy in game CCP, that's how you do it.

Either the topics in GD are getting dumber and dumber, or I'm just getting smarter every day. I imagine it's a bit of both.

Neither "slackers" nor PLEXers flood the market with ISK and/or materials. Bots do.

To be honest, if mining bots were legalized as a game mechanic, would the mineral market really be affected that much?

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

As a non AFK miner I find your idea horrid and would have me quitting in a mississippi second, and I am pretty sure most legit miners would quit. I get that most people do not like mining, but there are some of us who do not mind it. You would ruin the game for many of those people. I am not worried about this becoming part of the game, CCP has a hatred for botting, and they have a love of real life dollars. Dollars will will win out every time.

I'm a nerd, you can check my stats!! Skilling Int/Mem at 45 sp per minute is how I mack!     I'm like a lapdog, all bark no bite.
