Larceny Question

Hey all
I needed some salvage components for rig manufacturing so I scanned down a Dominix at my local mission hub and got to work. The guy was still in the middle of a tough looking mission (lots of Ammaran battleships cruisers and frigs) We ignored each other as I was salvaging the wrecks when I noticed that the Domi got scrapped. Well I wait for the remaining NPC’s to go back to the tower they were circling and go to salvage the players wreck. (better salvage typically)

As I’m salvaging the wreck I check the contents and there was about 10 mil in modules inside (not an amount to sneeze at with my current wallet). I go back to salvaging the rest of the wrecks and he still hasn’t returned to loot/finish the mission.

At this point I considered stealing the contents. So I took the following precautions:

I added him as a contact and added him to my watchlist. He had logged out apparently

I added his corporation to my contacts. There were no other corpmates in the system.

I was in a deadspace complex so I kept an eye on where anyone would warp into.

Nothing happened, I got the loot and was back in the hub selling it without incident.
So my question is; did I miss anything if I wanted to do some larceny again in the future?

TL;DR
What precautions should I take to avoid a fight when stealing?

If you find something worth stealing then go for it! The aggression timer is very short so you can just hide cloaked at a safe while you count your earnings and scan down your next victim.

I have a lover, her name is EVE. I see her every night and all she asks in return is that I have a pilot's license.

Smile Not if Im just going to lose my little salvaging ship and waste my time.

Unfortunately (from a pvp perspective) my skills are geared towards exploration. I would only lose if I provoked a fight.

Exploration is EVE's best profession IMO and the perfect nextstep for a salvager. I love it.

Correct me if I am wrong but to my knowledge, you will be unable to dock for a minute (a warp or two to random celestials should take care of that) and after another 15 minutes of staying docked up, you should be fine again.

Note : even after 15mn you're still not "safe".

Cool kids call this "extended agression" but only a master ninja-space-pirate may be willing to learn you that special move.

As long as he doesn't actually aggress anyone, he can dock just fine.

I thought the extended aggression bug was fixed? Regardless, if he's just looting and not leaving any objects behind, there should be no way for aggression to be extended. Unless this is a different aggression extension bug than I am already familiar with.

the wreck-shooting aggression extension has been fixed according to patch notes. Boo. Sad

It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.
