That's more than one episode and generally less than a full season (less than 13 weeks according to wikipedia). 2 x 2 is fine, quite a few of those and from full series (two 2hr episodes including commercial time listed/intended as "mini-series"). 1 x 1 seems fine as well, some listed as miniseries ya know. Sci-fi narrows it down quite a bit, but still quite a few to choose from. What are your 3 pics?

Mine are:
1. Farscape: Peacekeeper wars
2. Riese: kingdom falling
3. Frank Herbert's Dune

Though Farscape was... weird heh, they did produce a very memorable 2 x 2 miniseries. Just gotta love the vortex of death eternal. Riese, very unique. Dune could have been done better, but even as the lesser of the book and movie, it was excellent.

I'm not seeing what you are whining about... Generation Kill says right under it "An HBO mini-series"

Lexx was weird and Canadian and kinda vanished so I'm sure it goes in there

Also Farscape but just because you said it was Big smile

Lexx and Farscape are full series. Multi-season. No one is whining, please don't troll, this isn't GD ;)
Oh and I didn't say farscape was a miniseries, misunderstanding there. I listed "Farscape: Peacekeeper Wars". It's a 2 x 2 miniseries.

Aside from that great Farscape miniseries and those lame Dune miniseries (no offense to anyone who liked them but all they made me wanna do is watch David Lynch's movie, even if he is a ginger hater), I can't really think of any others. Looking forward to some worth watching that others come up with.

Ooh! I just remembered another one. The Andromeda Strain, it's only 2 DVDs and runs about 4 hours but it's awesome

There are quite a few. Here is a list of some popular ones (not everything) http://www.imdb.com/search/title?genres=sci_fi&sort=moviemeter,asc&title_type=mini_series

btw Riese you can still watch the whole thing at the sy-fy channel site, and for free. It's a steampunk miniseries.

Sweet thanks for the list, well off that a few I've seen and really liked would be:

Taken
The Day of the Triffids
Dinotopia
Robocop: Prime Directives
The Langoliers

I think the stand can slide heh. It's a "post-apocalyptic horror/fantasy". Post-apocalyptic is usually branched from science fiction. It's also futuristic as opposed to post-apocalyptic mesozoic era for instance. I think it qualifies.

*BEEEEEEEEP* hehe. Firefly is a series, even though just one season. V? 'V: the final battle' if you mean that, that's a miniseries.

Yes, a challenging question this one Lol

Ungh, there aren't many SF MINIseries I'm actually familiar with (i.e. seen/remember) to be able to make good picks from to begin with.

I'm going to go with...

1. Masters of Science Fiction (2007) ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0772139 )
2. Children of Dune (2003) ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0287839 )
3. The Andromeda Strain (2008) ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0424600 )

And an honourable mention to Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (2008) ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1227926 ), which I don't really consider "proper" Sci-Fi to actually qualify in spirit (even if technically, it does).
If I would consider it appropriate to include it in the above list, it would be slapped in between the current #1 and #2.

You mean Battlestar Galactica: The Miniseries? ummm let me get back to you on that one lol
Then there was Battlestar Galactica: Razor as well. BSG produced two miniseries.
(both sites good sources to check if you are not sure)

I appended 1 x 1 into the OP for clarification, two - one hour episodes intended as a miniseries. Those are self-contained story within a full series. Self contained story as in it doesn't really touch on events in detail (like a soap does) of previous episodes so that people are not lost watching the miniseries if they haven't watched the previous episodes of the series. And they are advertised as a miniseries. The most common that do that are usually pilots, or pilots hoping to land a full series but don't. But there are also two part episodes that don't really qualify as a miniseries, as they were not intended to be so nor really written in a newbie friendly manor. I recall Babylon 5 had a few examples of that, but not really miniseries, nor listed as such.
