In a few months I will have to make a documentary, so I chose to do Delve War 5 and I need YOU.

As the title says I will be given the task of making a documentary as part of my college film course. After great pondering I have decided to do it about the most recent war in Delve, Delve War 5: The Delvening.

I think this could make a great documentary as EVE wars are almost like real wars. With politics, borders, allies and spys, but with internet spaceships and more nerds.

EVE has always pulled interest because of the 0.0 wars that have been had in the past, with people checking Reddit and gaming news sights just to read about them. But I have never seen an in-depth documentary about one of them on YouTube or the interwebs (Maybe I haven't looked hard enough.) Making something like this would probably pull a lot of interest into EVE (and Dust when it comes out) and The CFC would probably become well known for winning the war outside of the game, in the gameing world.

ANYWAY ENOUGH OF THAT HERE IS THE PLAN.

To make a smashing documentary I need (Number here) things.

(1) WHY THE WAR WAS STARTED
We need to tell the viewers why the war started, and why various alliances took part on the clusterfuck that was Delve War 5

(2) THE HISTORY OF THE WAR
We need to explain to people what happened in the war, just like a WW2 documentary we need to list the dates and locations of the battles as well as major turning points (Like the PL spy in Red Alliance)
If everyone could pool their information about the war with dates and times that would be great, it would be even better if some magnificent bastard put it into one big wall of text.


(3) FOOTAGE FROM THE FIGHTS FROM BOTH SIDES AND MAYBE EVEN LOGISTICS

We need to have footage from the fights (with a date in US time to make things simple for me and a time and location of where the footage was filmed)
it would be great because it will show the viewers that it really happened and was not just a made up story, you could even show your friends the documentary and point to the footage and say: "I was there, I'm telling you, I was there."
No videos of roams or gangs, please, unless you do something amazing like take down a titan.



(4) AUDIO INTERVIEWS WITH PEOPLE THAT FOUGHT THE WAR ON BOTH SIDES AND PEOPLE THAT WHERE A HUGE PART OF IT.

I need interviews of people who fought in the war, or even helped their alliance in the war effort by running logistics or Jewing and mining. If it would be possible I would like to interview people who where top brass in each alliance. I know this would probably be highly unlikely, but it would be interesting to hear what the leadership has to say about the war and the politics behind it.

(5) PROPAGANDA POSTERS FROM BOTH SIDES
I'm planning to have a segment showing the propaganda from both sides of the war, both videos and posters. Showing the propaganda would interest the non EVE players (Or maybe even current EVE players) because propaganda in EVE is unique unlike other MMO's. Propaganda shows the how wars in EVE are alike to real wars, we try to **** on the enemy and even recruit players with it, added to that propaganda can actually make a difference in this game by using it to lie and **** about the people you fight against.


(6) DETAILED ACCOUNTS OF THE MAJOR BATTLES THAT WHERE FOUGHT

How did SoCo lose the war? How did they fail? they got their ass kicked that's how, on the space battlefield. We need to tell the views about the major battles that where fought in the war and how they where lost and won. it might not sound like much to us, but to a non EVE player or high sec newb the space tactics we use could sound fascinating and interesting. Added to that we can't just say "CFC won in this system in a big battle, then here, then there." Without telling the viewers what happened.

(7) CHARACTER PORTRAITS

Remember the Butterfly Effect trailer for EVE? And how you see all the little screens at the end of it?


I was thinking of using the same effect, only with character portraits, to show how many people fought in Delve War 5 with a accurate(ish) number of how many people actually fought in the war.
I can see this working in two ways with the EVE player and non EVE player:

EVE player: "Wow that was a lot of people, no wonder the war was such a big fuss."

non EVE player: "I was watching this documentary about this war they had in this online game called EVE Online, they show the pictures of all the people who fought in the war. I was surprised at how many people took part in in, I mean you wouldn't think that that many people would do such a thing in a game."


(8) A NARRATOR.
I need someone to narrate the whole thing, at the time I don't have a idea of a running length. After I get in the information about the war I should be able to write a script and see how long it will take, do remember that you won't narrate the whole video as there will be interviews with different players of the game.


THAT IS ALL BUT ONE MORE THING.

I will try and contact CCP about this and see if I can interview them in Iceland about the war and how EVE allows these wars to happen. I'm pretty sure they might say yes because a documentary like this is great exposure for the game and CCP will love people taking a interest in EVE.
If they do say yes I have prepared cash to fly out to Iceland (with my family chipping in) to do the interviews, this may sound unlikely and over the top but if this documentary gets big its great exposure for me as a film maker.

You can post on this topic but it would be more convenient for me this way.

The reason I have posted this now a few months before the task is because I need time to sort through all this information.

If I get enough information about Delve War 5 I will start on it ASAP.

Lets see how this goes.

This sounds fascinating. To help you along a little I am moving this thread to the My EVE section of our forums, there you will find many people skilled in making EVE based films and other related endeavours.

Some may even be able to provide you with "stock footage" for your documentary as well as provide important background information and insights. I wish you the best of luck and I for one will be following your progress, so remember to keep your thread updated Big smile - ISD Type40.

Depending on how much information we get about the war I will update this post in two weeks or so to say weather I will give the documentary a go ahead. If you know any SoCo pilots or high brass that where in the war please EVE mail me.
