I just noticed this and thought I'd get it out there before I forget-
Could there be a connection between Eystur, Metropolis, and Eysturoy, an island in the Faroes?

Interesting! I'd guess there is a connection. The Faroes aren't far at all from the devs home in Iceland.

Eystur is a municipality on Eysturoy in the Faroese Islands so it's very likely there's a connection. If you look at a lot of the names in EVE, be it ships or system names, you'll discover a lot more have some form of connection to Iceland. Smile

Many or most of the system names were randomized but some where specifically chosen, so that isn't surprising. The book Art of EVE clearly states that Old Norse cultures -- Iceland in particular -- were a major artistic influence on the Minmatar race.

My question is, if systems like 0SHT-A were intentional.

Watch out we are taking over New Eden Big smileCool . Plus Icelandic and Faroese are pretty close. So since Eystur means East in Icelandic and Faroese the connection is Eystur in space = East and Eysturoy = East Island. Smile. Or the devs where very drunk and could no come up with more crazy system names.

The Nonni system in Lonetrek is probably a nod to that Nonni's fastfood place in Reykjavík.

I'm told Juuni is Japanese for 12, and Gaishi is Japanese for injure/harm. Got me wondering if Juunigaishi is just a coincidence...
