Legion is optimal for incursions it pretty much munches on frigates and makes 10 m every 5 mins. Plus you get to actually fly in a fleet and practice your talking skills. And there's a pretty stable market for concord LP which doesn't involve tag buying and jumping through hoops.

HAMS are horrible in missions, just plane horrible . I'ved tried the HAM tengu, and it was utter crap compared to the HML variant. It will take your 10 minutes to kill elite frigates. USE HML tengu with t2 precision ammo and you are way better off.

Scrolling quickly to get the idea of the thread...

HAM Legion is an "alternative", not to say you should judge the ship by a rather obscure use you can't make work for you.

Drone Legion is the same way. Drone sub reduces laser damage, and the added drones do not make up for it at all.

Use HML, HAMS are just all around bad for missions. HAMS can have issues with small targets. Also in some missions where you have to fly around to get in range of a target, the HMLs would have killed it already.

If you want something diff then ya use HAMs, but if you want to do missions fast and effective, then use HML.

I use laser setup for my Legion, memory tells me its similar to Marcus's above. I love it on my L4's. I go through them quickly and easily, have yet to ever have a problem, even when I mess up the spawn a bit. When I factor in travel time, it goes through missions faster than my BS's do. And its FUN, zipping around, strobing away while heading to the next gate ;P

HAM is ok so far in pvp, but i still prefer the laser set up. I don't personally like the missile legion in pve.
I have been looking for a neut / drone high tank set up for small gang tackle (a great tanked curse), but have not yet seen one that I could consider better than the recons considering the price.

I'm guessing you didn't read which part of space the OP is playing in. I belive the words "Angel space" were used. Not something I'd associate with lasers being good weapons for.

Of course only one of the legion's missile bonuses applies to heavy launchers and unless missions in "Angel Space" vary drastically from the mirrors/pairings of high-sec the OP will be facing a lot of short-ranged opponents making closing to attack range less of an issue.

So how would you compare the laser build with the HAM build against Republic Fleet (or Angel as AFAIK they're nearly if not entirely identical barring bounties/tags) NPCs and their solid thermal resistance and almost as solid EM resistance? I'm presuming the OP means either Angel-controled 0.0 or regions where anti-Angel are predominant when he says "Angel space," and in the former case I'm further presuming that missions in Angel 0.0 contain an abundance of missions against the Republic Fleet just as Republic missions are predominantly anti-Angel. In either the anti-Angel or anti-Republic scenarios the OP will be facing enemies very nearly as bad for laser boats as Guristas rats are.
