I started playing eve in 2010, yeah its was cool! I loved the ships and building my character Smile. Then I decided I couldn't pay and took a break, quite a long break actually of 2 years.
I was doing character creation for a indy games company at the time and was looking for ideas. I did a quick search on youtube and found this awesome character creation tool! This was eve but now I could actually walk around the stations and check out my ship using my very own avatar! Big smile.

So recently I saw this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8k7oaz8mWug I thought wow so they are going to actually update the ships, along with the graphics of the game. I know all the people who use windows 98 will be saying 'Hey I like eve as it is! The graphics look awesome on my pc I bought 6 years ago'. Well this might be all well and good, but times are changing. New computers all have directx 11 cards which come with all kinds of nifty featured and other games companies are happy to implement them.

Recently I found this demo of a Myrmidon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGH030sLWn4 and wondered why eve is not more like this after my two years break from the game. Why isn't the new player tutorial more like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSYjvnq4U-M instead of just reading cryptic info from a faceless figure.

I know for most people eve is about locking targets, watching the little red bars move along the screen and cheering when the ship turns from a box into a triangle. Or maybe watching the isk grow in your cargo hold as you mine for precious metals.
How about adding some realism to the ships, The speed of which the fast frigates fly using micro warp drives for example, the smoke coming from your rail guns as they dig into the other players shields. And the power of strip miners carving their way into a large asteroids and beaming them into your cargo hold. I'm sure this can all be modeled with the latest technology. Maybe its the keeping old players happy with ship balancing, but ship balancing doesn't sell the game to new players or bring old players back to eve imo.

That myrmidon UI is incredibly counter-intuitive.

"We will create the introduction thread if that is requested by the community. Also, we will have an ISD Seminar about the CCL team in the coming weeks in which you can ask your questions about the CCL team and provide some constructive feedback to us." - Countless pages of locked threads and numerous permabanned accounts later, change is coming.

Confirming lens flare and bad UI design via obnoxious 3D interfaces in a 2D medium is "futuristic".

CCP is continuing to improve Eve's looks. Now that they have V3d all ships, they need to do the same to other space assets (statoins, etc), and they have announced work on things like hit graphics (shield flashes, armor pockmarks, structure holes in your ship, etc). Eve's graphics are not stagnant by any measure. Just keep up with the news.

EVE is always changing, you expect too much to quickly from a team that has multiple projects and not an infinite amount of time and resources. Compared to what EVE used to look like when it first launched up to now...it's very impressive. Over time it will continue to look better as it always has. Tutorials will get better...everything will get better.
Feel free to show me a better looking space mmo, or MMO for that matter. You won't find one.

I don't wanna buy a new computer just to keep playing EVE, I was told this is an mmo that's light on system resources and I hope it stays that way.

I want to collect 10 boars eyes in eve, and turn it in for gold. Also I agree, I would like Eve to look a little better, more objects in space.

More objects floating in the environment creates more lag, which causes many to zoom out to negate the lag, which negates any visual benefit from having more objects in the first place.

Comparatively speaking, it is. However that does not mean that it will remain frozen at it's current level.

Perhaps, but the thing I've noticed is that a lot (I'd go so far as to say the majority) of the content in this game doesn't really need graphics in the first place, much of it could be performed through a simple "lite" menus and input/output fields with static backgrounds only version. This of course would provide an optimal client for multi boxers, those with older computers, or who simply want something that they can play on a range of mobile devices, while the "full" version could continue advancing in graphical eye candy without alienating those unwilling or unable to upgrade.

Basically this. Pretty UI is useless if they're not designed correctly. Eve (the Spreadsheet Online™) has one of the most unergonomically, unclear, un-user-friendly UI out of most MMOs out there, which is funny considering Eve is one of the best MMO available on the market right now. Making the UI pretty doesn't solve the issue.

Graphics do? No they don't. It's about game play and the depth thereof. This game isn't about gold stars and glittery ponies, because if it were all about graphics, than chess would be some old ancient game that never gained recognition on the PC. I've been working with animation and graphics for 30 years, more professionally in recent years, and IMO EVE looks to be one of the more beautiful games on the market currently, and still improving.

It only goes to show that you don't need DX11 to make a good viewing experience in real-time rendering, because game environments can have their own look and style, and look just fantastic. Otherwise people would just dump their charcoal pencils and only work with oil paints. Van Gogh would have painted real life like a photographer. Technology is only a means, not and ends, and having some additional shaders and higher poly limits doesn't translate to a better game.

Just occured to me how "rich" the content would have been if every ship had it's own UI.

Of course, given that much content that would have need to been developed, we would have what, 50 ships in the entire game?

And people want to "walk in ships".

I know, let's make the UI customizable by players.....

and maybe CCP might crowdsource ship interiors or pay all those 3D wizards out there some plex and some fame (put their name on some graffiti belowdecks, like "Billybob Jones was here") to put the interiors together.

Just thinking...

Well custom ui is fine as you download the files from a third party, but the rest has too much liability. Opensource would be another matter, but the way it is, CCP could be hit with copyright and/or unfair pay lawsuits (why most mmo's pulled player support 10 years ago). But the bulk of the work is not the graphics work or whatnot, but the coding to support it. CCP would need to open their source to non-employees or un-contracted developers, and that is not likely to happen.

Yes, cause all the trees in all the MMOS combined, create tons of lag.

Get a better internet connection, get a better computer.

Also, so what its a game. CPP could put 4 stars in a solar system, environmental effects, comets, etc.
