Actor Bruce Willis is reportedly concerned that he does not have the right to bequeath access to his extensive iTunes collection upon death.

I know this subject has cropped up before in relation to EVE when players have prematurely met their end. I think Brendan "Nyphur" Drain touched on the subject in a Massively article last year. I'm not entirely clear what CCP policy is regarding player assets when the account holder is no more - for whatever reason.

Copyright and who owns data / intellectual property is the quandary of the age, something lawyers make their meat on.
I've sunk a huge amount of hours into the EVE universe. It is a legacy I'd like to legally pass on. EVE Forever.
Any thoughts on how folk can make that not only possible, but certain as stone.

I doubt eve is any different from any other MMO.

The in-game items all belong to CCP. Their use however, should be able to be transferred upon death.

I agree with that.

well death is pretty hardcore, they would probably allow that, but you do have to die first.

I can imagine the petition now...

Player "I'd like to transfer my accounts to someone else."
CCP "Are you dead ?"
Player "No."
CCP "Then you don't comply with the rules regarding transfer of accounts."
Player "So I have to kill myself to comply with the rules ?"
CCP "That's correct."
Player "Are you drunk and wearing a wizard hat by chance ?"

.

You can already legitimately transfer your characters to another account. Leaving an instruction to do so in your Will needn't be too contentious or difficult to execute.

Yeah EVE has the support set up pretty well for transferring characters and itunes with transferring music I suppose. I don't know know if all games have that support really. The dead person might have to wait awhile for that stuff to be built, before he could transfer control over.

Also hopefully we don't have to wait for the OP to die, before this thread gets transferred to it's rightful owner, out of pod experience.

It's a harsh universe after all, I was starting to doubt my reality.

Always look on the bright side, friend ♫

EDIT
on second read, your point might not be as blunt as I took it to be.
I may be mistaken, but our council luminaries represent players on every aspect of eve, including account management.
I know for a fact that there is more than one player that factors their own demise into their long term plans.
If you choose to believe CCPs stated commitment to the EVE universe then the pixel explosions we love so much have more than isk value. It's visceral, sentimental and immeasurable.

If you value the achievements of a friend, you'll care what happens to his stuff that's all.
