3 remaps... confused how they work

I've heard from too many people the correct/wrong story how the multiple remaps work.

One says you can only use one in a year regardless of how many remaps I have (which is three).

The others say, you can use a remap, then another at anytime, then the last one will stay until you get a new one a year later.


ACK! Does anyone KNOW for SURE which it is. Reason... I can save 6 days of Battleship 5 if I can remap now, but I don't want to be stuck for a whole year with a wonko mapping for just BS 5.

if you have 3 remaps you can
remap now and you will have 2 remaps left
remap again and you will have 1 remap left
remap again and you will have to wait 12*30 days before you can remap again

Rattus explained it pretty clearly.

What I want to stress is:
Remaps are fairly valuable options for you. Having 3 is rare and should be treated as a huge asset that you don't want to waste.

Please don't waste 1 of them so you can save 6 days and move on....

Ships and weapons use the same attributes. Try and get a few months of training with one remap. TBH, you could train ships and weapons easily for a year or longer. Think long term, because EVE is a long term game.

Yeh, to bad a newbie doesn’t know what to do with them probably, tries to use em thinking, I will set it back later. Then has to wait for a year after he does get it..... been there :(

There should totally be a warning box when you remap telling you just that. Oh wait.

Where do you see how many remaps you have? I only see "Remap now" and that remapping is available "now" on my remap page in game but nothing about additional remaps. Does that mean that I don't have any bonus remap? Or do I have to look somewhere else?

You only have the one remap available. If you chose to remap now, you would have a 1 year count down until your next available remap.

tldr; You have 1 remap.

But what is it that so many people are talking about having 2 or 3 or even 4 remaps avaliable ("bonus remaps")? It's possible that I have only 1 remap, but how/where would I see when I have more than 1?

You get one remap ever 12 months, plus back in the day (I can't remember which one) they gave a free remap or two because they removed some skills for payment. Also, this year for the first time they gave away a free remap as an option to the xmas gift.

When learning skills were removed everyone received 2 remaps, those who had their only remap already spent received 2 remaps and the rest received 3 (so +2 remaps to pool for each).

From your account page you can also select an extra remap as your holiday gift from CCP which will be added to your pool of remaps.
I for example have already used one of my remaps so I have only one remap left, after that I'd have to wait for 360days until next remap.
Also remaps do not accumulate so once you have spent your remaps you do not gain any extras by waiting meaning you will normally have either 1 or 0 (if used) remaps available for your character.

That was my understanding too, but back to my question. I extend it by an example:

Assume you have lost all your memory about how often and when bonus remaps have been issued. Then you come back to your EVE account. Now you want to know: How many remaps does your character X have available? Which window do you have to open and which tab to select to see this number?

If you have more than remap available, it will say "Remaps available: X" instead of “Remap available now”. You see this directly under your Attributes tab in the character sheet — right next to the actual remap button.

Did I have to redeem the remaps actively somhow (like now for the christmas gift on the account page) or were they credited automatically? I have "Remap available now" on my attribute tab, so only 1 remap. But I only remapped once in my lifetime (more than a year ago). So, in theory, shouldn't I have more than one remap? Unless I had to do something actively to get the remap which I'm pretty sure I didn't...

Also if you subscription wasn't active during the last remap give a way, you're out of luck on that department I'm afraid.

edit:
Ah yes also new characters have 2 remaps from the start to compensate for the loss of training speed bonus, unless I remember it wrong.

You were around a year ago when they abolished the learning skills — everyone was given 1D3 remaps at that point (it was supposed to be one; some got as many as thee; I got two). You could also get one from the GMs if things had gotten severely screwed up.

This Christmas gift is the second time they're handing them out en masse.

I must guess that things were screwed up for me and I even didn't notice. I never had such a bonus remap. Anyway, happy about my first then at Dec. 22... Thanks for clarification!
