Manufacturing Quote not 100% accurate

Hello Eve people,

Found something unusual and i thought i would share.

I usually tend to set long (around 30 day) manufacturing jobs, using excel sheets to work out which items will bring the most profit etc.

Using an example of a researched T1 veldspar mining crystal at a high sec station, i receieved a manufacturing quote for a single run which would take 77 seconds.

I've calculated that there are 2,592,000 seconds in a 30 day month, so the maximum number of runs (without going over 30 days) should be 33,662 runs.
However i recieved an info box saying that "Production Time Exceeds Limits" : 30 days 2 hours 30 minutes and 5 seconds.

So after some messing around with the number of runs i discovered that the most you can have within a 30 day limit is 33,545 ( with 35 seconds to spare).

I worked out it takes 2,591,965 seconds to manufacture 33,545 runs, which means that each run does not take 77 seconds precisely but a strange 77.26829631837829YadaYadaYada seconds.

Assuming i have not made any errors (oh the irony) this seems like a strange way of doing things, in fact im not totally convinced that this deliberate on the programmers part.

Personally i reckon it would make more sense if Manufacturing Times were that of the quote rounded to the nearest second and be done with it, or else we run the risk of other bored industry players making difficult to follow forum posts about nothing of particular importance.

Your thoughts ?

Anywho, here's some additional info.

I manufacture a range of different items, i picked veld crystals as an example.

Damn son.

It's summer, get outside and do something.

Or not. But step away from the Eve Client and the Excel spreadsheet.

As you have discovered, Eve Math is a weird mix of calculations done in ways that are not always logical or completely understandable. however, it does work. mostly.

Basicaly what you have discovered is that manufacturing jobs are calculated out to a large number of decimals and then rounded to the nearest second. Im betting that three runs of that veld crystal take 232 seconds rather then 231 seconds. however its not important enough for me to check.

if you look there are many things that are calcuated out but rounded when presented to us.

another notable example is security status and corp/faction standings. those are rounded out to four decimals but present two.

Its not possible to please all the people all the time, but it sure as hell is possible to Displease all the people, most of the time.

This doesn't seem like much of a stretch to me. Have you ever looked at the tracking speed of a gun? That goes out to the Nth decimal point, or range on a turret? or or or or... With how EVE calculates skill bonuses (5% here 2.5% there) it would make sense that the production timer wouldn't ever get to be a 100% even number. Why I bet that if you could actually see the shield/armor resistance percentages you would find that those go out more decimal places than I know the name for ;)

Didn't bother reading it all, but I also have twice filed a bug about production time and errors on the quote window.

EDIT: just checked. Still open.
