Alt/melodic metal suggestions needed

My wife's birthday is tomorrow and she wants some new music. Any suggestions would be appreciated-- I'm kind of running out of time. Here are some examples of what she likes:

Katatonia - Swedish alt metal
Novembre - Slick Italian melodic metal
Breaking Benjamin - Pop-ish Green Day-ish video game metal
Dragonland - Swedish symphonic power metal

If you know any of these bands, you get the idea. One other criteria: Can't have Metallica-like Cookie Monster vocals. (Which rules out most of the metal genre....)

Arigato guys!

My favorite melodic post-hardcore band is hands down A Wilhelm Scream, I've seen them in concert more times than I have fingers. They're definitely a rock band, ie no synthie bits and they're meant to be shouted along to (excellent lyrics for that) but the interludes are great and they're a whole-band sort of thing. Even the bass is an integral part of the action.

Less Bright Eyes, More Deicide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWIZs2GF7hM
Skid Rock: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8pNReUeq0w

And I especially like to listen to these ones while pirating:

Check out Apocalyptica, their older stuff in particular is very good.

Great stuff, many thanks guys. I put together a compilation CD of excellent selections from Draconian, Swallow the Sun, Within Temptation, Epica, Amaranthe, Leaves' Eyes, and Agalloch. That's seven new bands for the wife to explore, and go for the full albums of the favorites. o7!

Well, comparatively he's not that growly. Not like Carcass or Burzum or something. But I needed a reference to a growl metal voice that a lot of people would know. Smile

But not "scene" (like global music scene) or Emo (like emotional...cause we need angelic vampires and demonic zombies when we forget how to feel anything but the music)

Why do you happy little elves all need to romanticize or villainize this crap. It's just life, it's just music, it's just a game. Stop taking things so seriously and get to creating and procreating, durr.
