Another Space Game bites the dust. Black Prophecy will shut down on September 26th.

Source.

That is of course after it kills EVE as predicted 1000 times on this forum in the per-release hype.

Another f2p bites the dust. Didn't they get hacked recently? I wonder if that contributed to it's closure as well.

It was a very limited title, more akin to guild wars/world of tanks than an mmo. They had a lot of problems with latency iirc aswell. I'm fairly sure the misplaced marketing hyping it up as an 'mmo' and the pretty laggy combat are to blame here.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

From what I remember there was a terrible generic backstory laid out in a longer then needed intro video that I could not skip. Half way through there was some control the turrets mini-game that I didn't want to play followed by more unskippable cutscene followed by another scripted encounter.

After that there was a bunch bunch of missions I had to do and I could not jump around the galaxy or find a new agent that had more interesting ones.

By that time I was like whelp back to EVE where I can just go have fun anywhere.

September 26th, not December.

Oddly, the day after Mists of Pandaria is released. WoW killed Black Prophecy? o.O

I wonder if they are still releasing BP Nexus Conflict.

It is a Capital Ship game like EVE.

Oddly enough I knew that. I was thinking earlier after I started this thread one month is not enough time to give this game another try if for some reason I had the inclination too. No clue why I wrote December... Oops

Ah yeah that makes sense. Lag is a killer - in a twitch based game? And yes it was hyped very much, and on every mmo news site, the "EVE killer" etc. I never played it, myself. Trying to launch it back in beta, realized it 'required' dual-core. At the time I was on mono-core, it had it's advantages. I still use the system in fact, fast and very stable CPU, I use it as my audio editor platform, I get good results on my midi instrument input, recording and editing. By the time I got around to getting a multi-core, the thought of playing yet another f2p game was already a serious turn-off, so never got around to installing it.

Any chance of pulling those poor orphaned Black Prophecy players into Eve?

Oh they'll be back...

Every 10 or so minutes to jettison their ORE loads.

F2P means Play while EVE.

Yes, BP was supposedly the "EVE killer". Then maybe depends where you get your mmo news at, as some... maybe now all sites, constantly promote f2p as teh second coming. Sure, f2p constantly needs new accounts after the 3mo old ones leave, so mmo news sites get money for running the ads.

Another poorly-conceived/even worse-executed pay to win mess gets exactly what it deserves.

Working as intended.

Which, it must be said, is truly a shame, as BP could have been great, from what I saw of it.

But, in the end, all that is left to say is...

...

...

Next!

That would be Taikodom.

They are saying it is a lot like a F2P EVE Sandbox with direct ship control.

Currently in closed beta. I am a little excited about it.

Hmmmm...

Yeah, I'll take a look at that one (you've mentioned it before, IIRC?), but...meh:

"F2P (with its inherent possibility of P2W)" and "sandbox," I don't know if those really do, or should, go together in the same sentence?
