The Golem in a usual fit has like 60-80k EHP and costs 2b+ usually 3b+
The CNR has 90+
The Rattlesnake has 100+

Think about that when buying a multi billion isk ship

My mission char is pretty much max skilled for all three of those ships, and I currently use a sentry rattlesnake for nearly all missions.

Active omni shield tank (passive also works nicely - used both), bay full of gardes, curators and wardens with a set of hobs for the little stuff.
4 drone damage mods, two drone omni links, couple of drone range extenders.
Sit back, throw nearly 800dps death at whatever range you need to with almost instant damage switching, no TPs to **** around with, no ammo to worry about, no resists to change out, a great tank and minimal input. It's a 'get in and go' mission boat that for me personally makes missions bearable again, and easy to dual screen/client while I concentrate on more fun activities. P

With my previous mission boat of choice (Golem) the paper dps was higher, but much of the 'real dps' was wasted with torpedo overkill of targets and defender missiles from rats.
I personally fit the spare highs with rapid fire missiles, not cruise or torps, purely because I can munch mission frigs/dessies while my sentries eat the bigger stuff without switching out drones. I find for me this reduces mission completion time compared to a torp/cruise fit.

I've got to say, since the addition of the drone damage mods for me the Rattler is borderline OP. Smile

For a fully Passive (Resist Amps) fit for Lvl 5s with the Rattlesnake, if you fit 2 Drone Omni-Links and 2 LSEs that leaves you 3 slots for resists - which do you use? Most missions do 2 dmg types and 3 slots isn't enough to really get the resists high enough IMHO. One of the two will be < 70% which sucks :/

The obvious solution is to drop one of the Drone Omni-Links in favour of 4 resists amps. Not sure how good an idea that is though...

I bought a SNI for Lvl 4s - seemed overkill using a Rattlesnake for that Blink

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose

The Rattlesnake can use bigger angrier drones and has more tank.
The Golem fire GIANT pulsating penises out to 50km and will eat your children as it strolls slowly across your yard.

Now it boils down to the question...
Which ship is better?
In terms of high level PVE
In terms of general PVP
etc

Discuss please

For PvE,
Golem is meh.
Rattlesnake is more about tank than gank, and gank is better for PvE. You can active tank the Rattlesnake, but meh, you're stationary with sentries, and there are enough missions where you need to at least move to the next gate.
CNR has range, dps, and adequate tank.

I lean towards C, personally. :)

I'm an idiot, don't mind me.

Cs or Ds

Who'd say C's are too big and they prefer B's?

B's are nice, but at that point bigger is still better. Once you get to D's going bigger doesn't help. C-D is optimal

Before Drone damage mods the rattler was crap IMO. Afterwards, it is finally a decent ship, a worthy Pirate BS.

Ewww...CFCs on a shield boat? On a rattler?
CFCs reduce total cap, and increase cap/sec by 21%
In contrast PDUs increase total cap by 5% (for 16.67% more cap than with a CFC, so more cap for a burst tank), and increase cap/sec by 15%.
So they aren't as good as far as cap is concerned, but they also increase the rattler's buffer and passive regen. I've noticed even on active fits, its passive tank is still substantial....
I'm pretty sure the increased passive tank balances out the times you may need to pause boosting because PDUIIs don't provide quite the cap/sec boost of CFCIIs.

As far as burst tank goes, 3x PDUIIs are better than 2xCFCIIs and a Power relay:

Pros of 3x PDUIIs (relative to the relay+ CFCs):
Passive shield recharge is 51% higher
Shield buffer is 15% higher
Shield boost amount is 11% higher (12% with tech II and not Sansha power relay)
Capacitor Reserves are 43% higher

Pros of your relay and flux coils (Relative to the PDUs):
Capacitor/second is 30.5% higher (29% higher with tech 2 and not Sansha power relay)

I'll take the 51% higher passive tank + 11% higher burst tank with 43% more capacitor reserves +15% more buffer, over a weaker active tank that is more cap stable (not to mention the added PG if that was an issue)

Of course, on an armor boat, you don't care about the increase to shield buffer and recharge rate, nor do you care about the reduced shield boost (since there is no armor rep penalty).
But a shield boat... I love me some PDUIIs.
