Do you like sports?

if so could you please elaborate on a pet peeve of mine? I want to know how some of you people cheer for which ever team? My problem is for example take the Montreal Canadians, they play in the most separatist province and in the city that votes the most on separating from Canada. Why wouldn't they rename themselves Montreal Quebecers, would they if the province did split?

If you take for example, Boston Celtics... who on that them is actually Celtic? The other issue is who on that team is actually from Boston? This goes for every team people cheer for... what exactly are you cheering for?

That David Beckam guy is some where from the UK, I guess england? I'm not sure I don't follow but now he plays for USA... because he was purchased... so if an American cheers for team USA are they cheering for UK to lead the team or they actually believe David Beckam is now American?

It is a big pet peeve of mine that a lot of people cheer for a team that doesn't represent their city or nation. How could someone cheer for Yankees when no one from there is from New York? What you are cheering for is the big pile of money the owner has for purchasing all the "stars".

I think sports should be about cities vs cities, nations vs nations... no trades should be allowed, that kind of defeats the purpose of a team, maybe it's just me but I seriously do not understand it.

You are cheery for money, and when your "team" doesn't make enough dough, you are get mad at the entire team for failing... it makes no sense man.

Do I got it wrong?

I live near Montreal and none of the Montreal Canadians speak French (I'm not saying it's mandatory but the entire province is French) why can't the team speak the damn language? How would I cheer for them? Because they play in Montreal? What if Montreal bought David Beckam, would I cheer for him too?

You know who is actually from Montreal and is bilingual? George St-Pierre, that's one I can actually cheer for.

No, that is wrong. He only plays in the MLS but not the American national team.

You cheer for the team, and the child inside you.

Doesn't matter if they are or are not. It's about being represented by them, sort of a "champion" for the city. But it may also show prosperity or cleverness of the owner (be it a country or private) to be able to put a proper team together. Otherwise, yes we cheer for the jerseys they wear.

sports are an outlet for homosexual men to attempt to prove they are not indeed, homosexual.

I'm not what you'd call a fan. If someone puts on a game, I will cheer for athleticism on either side. I don't care about local clubs or rivalries.

The only thing that bugs me about these kinds of fans is when there is a afternoon game and they bring their drunken antics on the train for my commute home.
