Which missiles should I use in a ship with no bonuses to damage types?

So if I stick to EM/Scourge, I should be covered for all missions, right?

I would stick with EM and / or kinetic, unless you need Explosive and / or Thermic.

The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long - and you have burned so very, very brightly..........

why you want em?

Mainly Blood Raiders and Guristas, occasionally Angels and Sansha.

EM for Bloods and Sansha, kinetic for Guristas, explosive for angels, simple.

I'm guessing you're newly sitting in a Drake, in which case because of the kinetic bonus Mjolnir and Scourge are good enough for you (I think they're called Mjolnir now, whatever - the EM ones).

Once you get into a Raven/CNR you will want missiles of each damage type to swap according to the mission you're running.

Not so much. I'm preparing to fly SNI in 2-3 days which gives me more freedom of choice with damage types which is why I'm asking. In a Drake I'd just use Scourge on everything and on the rare occasions Scourge doesn't work, I'd switch to Mjolinir. In the Scorpion it seems I'll pretty much be using the same strategy.

Yeah, the Guristas' primary resistance hole is kinetic. They also have some weakness to thermal damage, so Gallente drones (with their increased damage multipliers) will work well, perhaps even better than Caldari drones.

I suppose the rule of thumb for missiles would be Scourge for Guristas and Serpentis, Nova for Angels, Mjolnir for Blood Raiders and Sansha. There's an EVE University reference chart here: http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/NPC_Damage_Types

SNI doesn't get a damage type bonus iirc so you'd be better off using missiles according to the mission you're running.

Edit: beaten by Marc Callan.

Easy rule for all NPC rats, they dont tank the damage they deal themselves, e:

blood/sanshas/amarr empire : deal primarily em and thermal, cant tank em and thermal

or

angel cartel/minmatar : deal primarily explosive, then kinetic (with little em), and tank explosive the least, then kinetic.

as a mission runner myself I usually carry mission specific missles however there are many times I carry atleast 1000 of each damage types and FoF scourge for good measure. in the mission Arnie scarlet you end up carrying atleast the way I just wrote cause you'll use most of all types. SNI great choice keeps you safer.

Since you brought it up, no. For drones you want Caldari for Guristas and Serpentis, Gallente for Blood Raiders, Sansha, Rogue Drones, mercenaries, and elite Angel frigs, and Minmatar for other Angels.

This. Plus thermal (Inferno now?) for mercenaries.

Huh. I'll have to pick up some Hornet II's and Vespa II's and check that out; I honestly thought that the Gallente drones' damage multipliers offset the resistance difference, given that they seem to do a good job for me when it comes to shredding Gurista rats. (I know for a fact that for projectiles, like 1400 artillery, Phased Plasma's thermal damage packs more of a punch against Guristas per bullet than Titanium Sabot's kinetic damage, but that's probably because Plasma's a shorter-range round.)
