Well seeing as my first attempt at this was an abject failure, let's try this again shall we?

Someone recommended I start a thread for talking about the differences between the Caldari State and the Gallente Federation, and I think that's a dandy idea. So let's have at it folks, share with us what you think are some of the key differences between the Caldari and the Gallente (or the Intaki, Jin-Mei, and Achurians for that matter).

(OP is especially interested in the views of Gallenteans, Jin-Mei, and Intaki on what it means to be a citizen of the Federation in relation to the other factions.)

At this point I'm not sure to be honest, like I've said the purpose of this thread is to gather more detailed information and encourage dialogue about the differences between State and Federation so that myself and others who may be new to this summit might speak from a better informed perspective in the future. I've also established this feed for the personal reason of attempting to understand more about my fellow citizens in the Federation, so that on that regard I may also speak from a position that seems less arrogant and unjustified.

I might suggest that rather than ask fellow Federates about their views on why they are different from the Caldari, that maybe a useful start would be to ask how the members of the Federation view their own internal cultural differences and how that informs their experiences within the Federation and with people from other backgrounds within the Federation. That sort of discussion is likely to get fewer needling responses, will allow those with no interest in getting wrapped up in war talk an opportunity to speak, and may actually enlighten many of us. As an outsider I would welcome the chance to read such a thread.

Soliciting mainly a single faction to discuss their opinion of a different faction with which it is at war (of a sort) on the IGS of all places is the rough equivalent of throwing a live grenade into a bonfire, no matter the intention.

I think you put it much more eloquently than I could have, so I'm just gonna quote ya. Smile

If you're asking me, the Gallente are over the top but have their heads in the right place, while the Caldari are a bunch of profiteering scumbags. There are notable exceptions, but those are the general trends.

However, I should re-iterate Saede's statement:

There are a lot more neutral and balanced sources to get information rather than out of ornery capsuleers on the IGS. Try reading some published articles, histories, etc.

((OOC: there is a lot of lore documentation about... well... everything. Try this to start with. There is information relevant to your query in all the sections shown there. Particularly detailed and masterfully done lore can be found in the Chronicles.

Other than that, try to read the history of Eve news, various corporations (some notable ones on the Gal/Cal topic are Quafe Corp, Creodron, Kaalkoita, and other info pages. You may also want to look into the leadership of the Federation and the State, and their drama. Farther back in history, you should read about why the Caldari seceded in the first place. Go. Read. Research. There is no easy mode or cliff notes.)
