20 years from now, the world will look as different from today as today looks from 1992.

It is highly unlikely that Eve persists that long.

Tears will be shed and pants will need to be changed all round.

Well might as well come clean with the truth, as of 2060 EVE is doing GREAT!!

Sometime around 2015 unexpectedly massive and sustained profits from Dust 514 provoke Sony into an attempted take over of CCP, which is met by a huge backlash known to history as the "Week of Darkness". During this so called week of darkness hundreds of thousands of EVE Online and Dust 514 players joined by still thousands more disgruntled Sony customers come together in the largest corporate protest in history, marching on the three major headquarters of Sony Computer Entertainment in Japan, London, and California. The resulting damages and loss of reputation among their customer base results in Sony Global fileing for bankruptcy in 2018.

After the closing of Sony all rights to Dust 514 are turned over to CCP. CCP uses it's profits to fund an expansion at CCP that results in the company bringing on board some of the greatest video game designers from all over the planet. Shigeru Miyamoto becomes even more universally admired for his work on spaceship designs, specificly his redesign of the Avatar class titan. While Ed Boon and John Tobias come on board as senior programmers for Team Avatar, resulting in some of the most addictive (and gruesome) MMO ambulation ever created.

World of Darkness is finally released in 2019, which becomes an instant hit among the world's goth communities, and sparks a revived interest in Vampire: The Masquerade. The combined revenue generated from the global "vamp craze" and profit streams from the EVE Online/Dust 514 products, which continue to see steady increases in subscribers on a quarterly basis, results in CCP becoming one of the wealthiest corporations on the planet.

In 2022 CCP purchases the nation of Iceland and renames it Punkturia, establishing the world's first corporate owned country. The Democratic Industrial Punkturian Socialist Homogenized In Triumph party more commonly known as the "dips**ts" becomes one of the planet's leading political forces, promoting numberous social and economic reforms that bring forth a golden age of financial and cultural prosperity for all humanity. As a result of the work carried out by the Dips**ts, Punkturia goes on to boost a less than stellar global space industry, which along with the collective efforts of 183 nations leads to the formation of the Sol-3 Global Space Initiative, also known as the Spacebros and Sisters United for all Humanity, or more commonly "Sas U 4 Humanity".

In 2030 the Sol-3 Global Space Initiative completes construction in record time on the planet's first fleet of spaceships capable of intergalactic travel, many of them based on original designs from EVE Online (my family and I live on a Vexor class exploration vessel) and powered by advanced multidimensional engines based on declassified research previously conducted by Nikola Tesla. It is during this time of expansion that, thanks to the Tesla drive, humanity reestablishes contact with several extraterrestrial civilizations which had formerly visited Earth in it's past, thus finally discovering once and for all through the correlated historical records of five galactic civilizations the true history of planet Earth and the origins of humanity, which turns out to have been the result of biological contamination left behind by a deep space research team from the Andromeda galaxy millions of years ago. Faced with the humbling realization that life on planet Earth was indeed an unintentional accident, several religious institutions quietly fade into history, and humanity collectively celebrates in unity and peace it's great fortune at having evolved into what it is today from a mere accident.

In 2043 the carebear mining division of the spacebros and sisters made contact with an elusive and highly advanced race known as the Fynh, who despite living a mere 12 light years from the Sol system in the sytem of Tau Ceti, kept themselves hidden using advanced pandimensional cloaking technology until such time as they were certain humanity was no longer a potential threat. It is from this peaceful contact with the Fynh that humanity was granted knowledge that resulted in safe and reliable human-to-machine interfaces that not only resulted in us finally being able to create an interface which allows for the very capsule technology found in EVE Online to be used aboard our physical spaceships, but also a state of virtual reality on par with that from the classic television series Star Trek, which strangely no other civilization save the Fynh themselves had managed to perfect, and which finally allows EVE Online to be played the way so many had envisioned it in decades past.

Finally, and here's the best part... two years ago the "Treaty of EVE" was signed by three thousand twenty eight civilizations through out the known verse... who have agreed to adopt the virtual metaverse of EVE Online as the sole method by which universal conflicts will now be resolved. Countless worlds existing on numberous planes of existence have heralded this as the start of a golden age for all the known multiverse. Subsequently in the next couple years you may begin to notice increased activity in the Jovian region of EVE space, this is due to countless sentient beings retroactively training up characters for use in treaty sanctioned combat and other forms of gameplay I doubt you could even imagine. I've read about a gameplay element you had back in the early 21st century called "time dilation" just wait until you see what that's like in a virtual metaverse capable of pandimensional travel to any point within space and time. Blink

Please accept on behalf of the three thousand twenty eight ratifiers of the treaty of EVE, your future selves, the adult selves of your children, and your children's children who now reside on countless worlds throughout the verse, our deepest thanks for helping co-create the greatest conflict resolution device in the known multiverse. Cool

Greetings from 2035! Unfortunately there was a mishap in the creation of the Time Vortex, and our original plans of 2032 were set back. Public time travel opened up just six months ago. Anyway, about Eve...

Your current powerhouse Goonswarm died a rather unspectacular death in 2014 when their home forum was shutdown after [REDACTED DUE TO ONGOING INVESTIGATIONS - TIMELINE ENFORCEMENT AGENCY]. Without its common grounding, the alliance withered and ultimate broke into several smaller factions over the course of another two years.

The nullsec politics that followed were rather exciting. With the Goons scattered, their coalitions disbanded and the Moon Wars broke out. For two solid years nearly all moon production was diverted to the wars. Tech 2 goods hit unbelievable prices. The carebears complained until CCP capitulated and opened up very limited ring mining in high sec.

The fighting in the stations was particularly brutal. CQ assassinations by spies reach such a level that prominent members of corporations never docked. I haven't been in station since I started the alliance I'm running now.

Station-busting supercaps became a major force during all this. They're pretty much giant dreadnaughts with 30-minute siege timers. They basically solve the structure grinding problem. Whole regions were stripped clean of structures, and by the end of the madness most of the supercaps were destroyed and couldn't be replaced for lack of supply chains. It's largely accepted that the end of 2022 represented a reset for nullsec, as there were no alliances left holding more than a dozen systems for a short time.

W-space was briefly the primary source of advanced ship production. T3 battleships were the primary tools of the new nullsec order. Unsurprisingly, the most powerful w-space alliances have carved out quite a bit of territory for themselves. Their coalition is the oldest existing nullsec power bloc.

The Terran invasion that came in the winter 2025 expansion was quite notable. Your incursions are nothing compared to the fighting that goes on against the [REDACTED - PROPRIETARY INFORMATION] AI that we have now. They adapt and fight better than most players. The online content this generated--especially the AI's posts to social networks--generated remarkable interest in Eve. We're well over 20,000,000 subscribers now and are the second-largest MMO. Only Generic Fantasy World has more. As a result, CCP eventually ended the Terran invasion with a storyline depicting the collapse of Terran society under a plague of their own engineering and the opening of a dozen gates into T-space, a new star cluster that added five new regions of space. The Terran AI now plays the part of all of the NPCs in game, creating a dynamic game world.

In 2030, a long-running project was completed. A small group of players had been working for decades to reach Jove space without the use of a jump gate. The were finally successful, arriving in N-FKXV in a high-speed frigate fitted with a cyno. They immediately colonized the system and began staging for combat. My alliance and several others joined them and we used Jove space as a launching point for taking over the north and east. Our coalition controls everything from Branch to The Spire. CCP has tolerated our presence in Jove space because to do otherwise would be breaking from the established lore that the last of the Jove were wiped out by the Terrans. All that remains is empty space...and now us.

A year ago our front lines came in contact with the Sleeper Coalition and their endless supply of T3 ships and weapons. Both sides agreed that peace was boring and we've fought skirmishes across the borders with several major wars breaking out for a few weeks. We've been so tied up fighting each other that two new coalitions have formed in T-space and actively oppose both of our attempts to expand in the northwest.

A recent devblog suggested wormholes may be coming to our protected Jove space soon. Things could get very interesting.

In 2032, the Earth you know now, will be no more. December 2012 passed without incident, other than several dozen suicides by a bizarre cult.

The real danger came in November 2013 when the aliens invaded. It seems that our little robot on Mars desecrated some of their ancient burial grounds and they were rather angry with us.

From far beyond the Kuiper belt, they launched a large nuclear strike at Earth, which the combined armed forces of the world had no chance of stopping. It was determined that evacuation was the only possibility to save mankind.

NASA knew, ever since the beginning of space exploration, there was a chance that hostile alien forces could endanger the whole of Earth, and had in fact had planned for this since 1960, their plan being fully realized in late 1964.

Officially built as a baseball stadium, its true purpose was finally revealed when news broke of the barrage of alien nuclear missiles headed for Earth. An emergency Earth evacuation ship, the Houston Astrodome became the ark that would take sixty thousand of mankind's survivors on a journey to find New Earth, a flight that is predicted to take more than 700 years.

This ship is now my home and my place of work, as it is for all of us on board. None of us will ever see natural sunlight, a snow-capped mountain, or anything similar for the rest of our lives. Our children will only know life on board the ark, sky and oceans being the thing of dreams and ancient photos and two-dimensional video images. After thirty generations, Earth will have passed into legend as our descendants finally reach their new home.

There are, of course, unconfirmed rumors that three other similar evacuation vehicles existed, but no contact has ever been made with them. If they survived, they may not be bound for the same destination as we are. There are other planets that they may have chosen, their journey may be shorter or longer.

More sickening are the communications still received from Earth, talk of tens of millions who survived the blasts in underground shelters designed for such purposes, but grotesquely mutated due to the remaining radiation. These communications are never shared with the population at large, but they are known to the officers on board.

Just this morning I received another one, although I never respond to them. They are unbearable to watch, so I only listen to the audio portion. Except today, for some odd reason I felt compelled to see the entire message. There was an image of a brown and red landscape reminiscent of Mars. No water or vegetation visible, just rubble and dust and barren, scorched earth. The camera rotated 360° to show the entrance to a large cave leading into the side of a cliff. The video faded to black and then a shot from inside the cave, a large space craft was under construction by odd looking machines.

The voice said what it always says. Sometimes I feel I've heard the voice before, as though it were someone I knew back then. Sometimes it sounds like a complete stranger. Sometimes it doesn't even sound human. The message changes with every communication, so it's not an automated distress call. It's not even a distress call, or even a warning to anyone approaching. It is simply a statement swearing vengeance.

These people are so nice, trying to cover up the truth.

Judgment day happened. Skynet becomes sentient and launches a nuclear strike against its enemies. We fight the terminators for 15 long years before we finally reached Skynet's central core in 2032.

To stop the monstrosity, the leader of the human forces, the one known as Chribba, loaded a session of EvE and turned on the captain's quarters. Skynet's processors maxed and ground to a halt, crippling its defenses and allowing us to gain final victory over the machines.

In honor of EvE's place in saving humanity, we tried to fulfill its ultimate promise of mankind in the stars. In time it even became religion.

As our holy chat logs taught us, the first of us in space set up transmitters which we use to constantly send offers for money doubling, lotteries, and trades where we offer you coke classic but give you new coke. We also set up giant rail guns on the moons surface which we use to blow away any new ships launching from Earth's surface, no noobs will be allowed in orbit. We spend the time between launches whining about how there's no one in low orbit (we call it lowsec, as the holy words tell us).

So in the future, EvE IS real. I know this because I was there.

Dust 514 is a runaway success. CCP makes so much money that they buy Sony. All of it.

The CCP PlayStation 9 has no trophies, auto-disconnects if it detects incoherent yelling in the headset, and shuts down if the controller is thrown. The CCP PlayStation Mobile deletes your saves and ejects the game cartridges across the room if you die too many times. World peace is finally a reality as men and women everywhere become more worried about their game consoles hating them than other countries' military movements.

Meanwhile, EVE Future Vision happens and people everywhere share the joys of living in a virtual space universe when they're not busy fearing their PS9s. Jon Lander wins the Nobel Peace Prize but gets drunk for the acceptance speech and calls China a "bunch of worthless botters who should be purged like the parasites they are." The award is retracted and given to Punkturis, who heads EVE's only viable competitor, Hello Kitty Online.

How did it come to this? We had such potential.

Macaper was right. She was completely right. On all of it.

It was 2019 when the Terrans came. By then nullsec had been expanded three times. It didn't matter. They poured out of the eve gate like a great tide, washing over the cluster. The Amarr Empire fell first. They didn't even know what happened. The Minmatar were a bit better prepared to defend themselves, that was a hostile border already, but the terrans still swept over their defenses in only three weeks. We capsuleers managed to rescue who and what resources we could before they burned the worlds to ash from orbit, crashed the stations, and destroyed the gates.
The Gallenteans and Caldari put aside their differences to survive. The alliance managed to hold the line at Kaaputanen for almost a year, before they simply quantum tunneled past the defense lines and laid siege to new caldari. The attempts to sabotage the gate network to keep them out were for naught, the points where the gates once stood are apparently in the right spots to be used as some sort of FTL jumpoff point, allowing them to get anywhere.

The Gallente survived for another six months, but in the autumn of 2020, they too fell. We few surviving capsuleers fled with who we could, deep into wormhole space. Our mass drivers keep the wormholes into New Eden closed or moving around, but we've still seen. The cluster is no more. Over the last twelve years, the Terrans have demolished all traces of civilisation, sparing only the rogue drones. The capsuleer alliances put up a mighty fight, holding onto their territory with tooth and claw, using tactics that only an immortal could come up with. But one by one, they began to fall.
Then, the terrans began to change the cluster. They are not human, not anymore. They are turning everything...different. Planets are completely ripped apart, huge chains of metal encase stars. strange higher dimensional folds that hurt the eyes to stare at stretch between systems. The megascale engineering never seems to end. Just when we thought there was no further step, they started to dismantle the suns. We know not of their intentions, only that the cluster as we knew it was gone.
Now most of us hide out in the wormholes. The sleepers have been mostly mitigated as a threat, and we have created a small network of gates in our capital systems, but we know our hiding place will not hold out forever. We have seen some of their scoutships slip through our defense nets. Soon they will come for us.

That is why I have come back. To stop this before it starts. The petty squabbles of all the cluster must stop. The seeds of those conflicts were planted by the Terrans themselves to make us weak and ready to invade. The armies of all the capsuleers and all the empires must move to New Eden and begin constructing fortifications unlike any the universe has seen before. The invasion is still 7 years off. I have brought technology with me, ways to rewrite history for the better. There is potential, there is hope, that in the right hands, there is still time, to make things right.
